Harris, J P. President Thompson's Report. At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last Tues.lay night, Hon A. A. Thompson, President of ths Board submitted his annual address, which will,, be his last, 'retiring, as tie does from the position. It is a most admirable make up of our pres ent and prospective resources, and contains suggestions of the highest importance. He predicts that the pecuniary value of the cotton crop in Wake this season will exceed that of last year by $80 ,000. He recounts the enterprises which he thinks will be . ..consummated within the next two years. Summed up as follows: A belt Hue of railway, Land and Im pfovement Company ;a Knitting Mill; an extension to the tfarboro'House; tli loi- tion of the shops of the Geo Carina and Northern Railroad; a we'! equipped gas works; a combi nation buildii.g for holding horse and cattle shows; the extension of the Albemarle and Raleigh Railroad; a stone roadway from the city to the Federal C. metery; a grand State ex position for 1891, etc. He places the value of the real and personal prop erty of the township at $10,000,000. It is an admirable presentation of our internal affairs upon which our entire people no less than President Thompson are to be congratulated Personal Mention. . '. . Mr. John E. Ray, arrived in the city last night from Asheville. He is Superintendent of the institution for Mute, aad .Blind of Colorado. Mr. Ray and family have spent several weeksln North Carolina, visiting rel atives and friends. London, August 9 A ring which Stanley lost in Central Africa has just turned up in a remarkable manner. When the Anglo-American expedi tion started for Africa a ring was pre sented to Mr. Stanley engraved with his name, the name of 4he expedition, and the date. While exploring the lakes upon the occasion of his first march across the Dark Continent he lost the ring. After eight years it came into the posession of a Welch missionary to the Congo, the Rev. W. C. Hughes,now President of the Con go Institute at Colwyn Bay, who bought it from a native.
