The remains arrived here last night at 11:15 by way of the W. C. & A Railroad, and the funeral will take place (probably not before tomorrow) from the First Baptist Church. The deceased was 64 years of age and was a native of Wilmington. His business was that of a builder and contractor, but he has lately been employed as a carpenter in the At 1 antic Coast Line Railroad shops at Florence, whither he removed from this city about a year ago. Some years ago he removed from here to Fayetteville, but he Boon left there and for ten or twelve years resided at Raleigh where he followed his trade He came back to Wilmington about two years ago and after being here about a year he went to Florence to reside. He leaves a wife and two sons, one of whom resides in Tennes see and the other in Ifew York City. The bereaved wife was visiting Fay etteville, but she has arrived here, and probably one or both of the sons will come on to attend the funeral. Had the Wrong Tip. 'Please send me my Derby coal " There is an estimable lady of St. Paul, says the Pioneer Press, who. about October 1st, will send some such message to another estimable the latter a gentleman not altogether un acquainted with the price of fuel. This is how it happened: The lady was among the clubhouse contingent in attendance upon yester day's Derby.and was conversing with and mildly chaffing the gentleman with upon what he didn't know about picking winners. Piqued a trifle bv this badinage, the gentleman finally said: "Well, maybe you think I don't know anything about horses, but I'll bet you Robespierre wins the Derby just the same." Where he got the, tip heaven only knows, but it didn't impress his fair quizzer any, for she said: "If you mean that I'll make you a proposition." "Of course I mean it,"said the gen tleman. "Well, then, if Robespierre wins I'll pay you $16 a ton for my coal next winter. If he doesn't you will send me my coal for nothing." "Done," said the gentleman, and done" it is, for needless to say Robe spierre was not in it. A Buffalo (N. T.) dispatch says that Mrs. Albion W.
