Miss Hattie Christophers, who spent I the summer at Winston, has returned to her home on East Morgan street. A new census has just been taken at Asheille, which gives it a popula tion of 11.984. This is an increase of 1,900 over the government census, If you want to pass an hour or so of solid enjoyment go to Tenn son & Dawson's grand e hibition at Met ropolitan Hall tonight. A bunch of keys has been found on Fayetteville street which the owner can tret bv calling at the Station House. The proposition to erect a monu ment on our Capitol square to the mmorv of the Confederate dead, is a grand one, and should be carried out. A small contribution from each county is all that is needed. Special meetings Commence to night in the Tabernacle church, There has been considerabb interest for some tiin past and the time seem ed very favorable for a revival. A cordial invitation is extended o the people to attend. The Committee having the ban quet arrangements in hand request us to state that they have endeavored to see every Odd Fellow in the city who desired a ticket, and that if any have been overlooked they will please call upon the Committee and they will be supplied The County Canvass commences to day at Cary, and will continue until a short time before the election. Both sides seem to be elated, and it only remains for the "longest pole to sweep the persimmons." We hope that the canvass will be conducted in an orderly and creditable manner all around. It is not natural for eyery body to thiuk alike, therefore tolera tion should be practiced to all the extent possible. Attention is directed to the adver tisement of Mr. John R Terrell, No. 203, Fayetteville street opposite the Raleigh National Bank. Mr. Terrell has one of the finest and most select stocks of all kinds of groceries in this city, and he is selling at such reason - able prices, as must attract public at tention. Those in want of delica cies in his line should give him a call. We hear but very little of late about the prospect of an electric street car line. We note that our neighbor Durham, is moving in the matter. Shall we be behind ? If the road is properly extended into the Buburbs it surely should be a paying investment. It -seems to be in most other Dittoes many of which are not as large as ours. Why not in Raleigh) Sad Intelligence. Capt. R L. Heflin, of this city, re- ceived a telegram this morning stat- . ing that his son W. T. Heflin, died yesterday evening in Georgia.
