The Daily Evening Dispatch, of Goldsboro, has suspended publica tion. The Vein Mountain Gold Mining company has opened a gold mine near Marlon. Nearly $500 has been secured by Rev. R. S. Brown to build a Presby terian church at Andrews, Cherokee county. Gen. T. F. Drayton, of Charlotte, at last accounts was thought to be slowly sinking, with little hopes of his recovery. Twin City Daily. A. S. Carrington, of Bowling Moun tain, has produced a' sweet potato weighing seven pounds. The Ox ford Ledger reports it. Mr. R. Percy Gray, of GreenBboro, has been chosen assistant president of the C. F. and Y. V Railroad. This is an honor worthily bestowed. Twin City Daily. Laurinburg Exchange: Including those in coarse of erection eight new brick stores are to be built here right away. Up to date 3,500 bales of cotton have been shipped from this point this season. It is the duty oi every man living in a town to boom that town, other wise he is not a good citizen. If we have Jive, progressive towns in North Carolina, we are sure to have good produce markets, thus benefitting the whole country. Let's start that way now.- Concord Standard. Our townsman, M. K. John Dixon a prominent farmer of AHegh&ny county, shot and killed a man named Marshal Helsey, last Wed nesday. Dixon found Helsey in a compromising position with his wife. Subsequently a brother of Helsey at tempted to shoot Dixon, when the latter also killed him. Dixon has the sympathy of the people and the greatest excitement exists. The American Type Telegraph Company was incorporated in New ark, N. J., yesterday, with a capital of 1600,000. Private Frank O. Neill, of the U. 8. Army died from hydrophobia yester day at Fort Mcpperson. Patrick Gorman, foreman of the gas department of the Otis Iron and Steel Company, Cleveland, O., went into the drying departmentMonday morn ing to take a nap.
