'1 SEW ADVERTISEMENTS IIA HANDSOME LINE MAKING AIT EXPLANATION. A Qucsttou or Identity That Miglit Have nultPd Nerl ously. I was getMmj shaved lo a oo chair barler bhp In a mouuti i i t.n In Kentucky, mid there whs onltf o e other uiiu la the shop befid s Hie barber, says a writer In the Deficit Free Pre . The process was about bait through when souie one i heard walking on the veranda which surrounded the shop, and pretty soon a wild looking face peered through the window. "Say, Bill, does he'un want you V aaked the barber of the other man. "Who all is it r "Simmons, I r-fkon." "He'un can't want ine. I never did nothin' to him." "Stranger, does he'un want you T" asked the barber of me. "Who T Simmons, as you call him ?" "Yes." ".Never heard of him. Who is he, anyhow ?" "Ob, he'un lives back here ajbit Great hand to shut. Had any trouble with him r "No." "Well, I'll go out and explain to he'un. Might shut through the win dow if I didn't." He put down khis razor and went out, and when he returned Si' unions was with him. The shooter stepped around and took a square look at me, and then heaved a eight of disap pointment and Baid to the barber: "Taln't he'un, Sam, bnt so mighty clus to it that I might heve popped through the glass." "Never does any hurt to explain matters," said the barber in a reflec tive way as Simmons went out. He 'unkille.1 two men in this chair and I don,t like the muss of it That's what I went out to explain if you was he'un's met, he'un was to wait and drap you outside." A Moustache War. There is a moustache war in pro Kress in Vienna. The waiters in the restaurants got to wearing and curling their moustaches like the young aris tocratic bloods who patronized them, against which the y. b's protested, and the question now is shall the waiters lose the curled moustache or the restaurants lose the custom of the y. b's. At .latest returns the waiters held the ground and their mous taches. Stock Exchange Seats. New York World. An old timer on Wall street says I expect to see seats in the Stock Exchange sell for $10,000 before the year is out. I believe the !,( 00 Mr. Henry Clews paid for the seat of his nephew, John Henry, the other day. was the lowest to date, but there is really no good reason why there should not be lower prices yet. The $6,000 life insurance a member of the Consolidated Exchange gets with his seats is now, by the way, one of the most cherished features of the mem bership, and is likely to be more so after the first of the year, when bal ance sheets are adjusted. The New York City census people ' went before the Congressional Com mittee on Friday And the intense in terest felt in the question was mani fested by the number of persons who crowded in to witness the proceed ings. The large comm it ee room was crowded to unpleasantness. Mr. Bow ers of New York made a strong pre sentation of the case, Mr Porter fought it inch byjineh. Theris no chance whatever for New York to get Si recount. The census people have made their, count and they are de teraintitt ttfitick to it and more than ' that, the short session is 'bent upon reapportionment nnder that count; a thing that has never been done be fore in the history of the Govern ment. "A LITTLE experiment carried out at the New Hampshire Experiment Station showed that the average cost of a quart of milk from the best cow was 1 69 cent, While a quart from the (. poorest cow on the same ration cost 4.26 cents."
