A Short Talk on Sheep. At one of the New York farmers' institutes Mr. J. H. Rutherford, of Angelica, in an address on sheep bus bandry said- Sheep must have the best of care. My advice is to buy sheep and to keep them. This we must do if we would restore to our farms their former property. We can do this beet with sheep, and at the least cost. In the following statement I have charged for pasturage at cost, as if you hired pasture, and have given the manure for the little care, including the pleasure. One hundred sheep will cost $400; you will pay for hay and grain to winter $100, and for pastor ing remainder of year, $80; cost of shearing and washing, $8, making $588. You will raise 126 lambs at $3.50 per head, $438; 660 pounds of wool at 80 cents, $165; total, $603. You have also saved enough to keep the original number more than good. I have given advantage in the statement to the debit side. Ought not any farmer to be satisfied with the returns ? Do not hold your wool over there is no money in that take the market price; stick to the business; do not ever get discouraged and sacrifice your sheep. No animal repose more confidence in man than sheep, none affords greater reward A Temperance Exhibit. Chicago, April 30. The children's department of the World s Woman Christian Temperance Union is ac tively engaged in the preliminary ar rangements for the proposed exbibi' of the deoartuient at the Columbian exposition. One noble suggestion hich has been adopted, contemp late the festooning of the headquar- ers at the fair with autographs of all the temperance boys and girls in the world, the names being written on cards three by two inches in size and white and blue in colors. The auxiliary departments throughout the world have also been requested to set their boys and girls to work to earn the sum of ten cents each for the memori al fountain to be unveiled on Sept. 18th. 1892. the birthday of Miss Franca? Willard. An inscription will be placed on the front of the foun tain perpetuating the fact, that it is the gift of temperance children of the universe. Raleigh Post Office MAIL SCHEDULE. Luck. The woods of the world are always full of unhappy people who imagine they are heirs to misfortune, who pa rade their ill-luck and refuse to be comforted. Did you ever think about that. They are on the outside of al that is good and cheerful in this world, and are prone to believe that this life is a failure and that they are special subjects of fate. Their hands are thrown up so to speak and they never stir until they are kicked by the toes of progress, in whose path way they lie. They believe in luck and charge all their failures to luck They decide in advance that luck is against them and that any attempt on their part to succeed would prove a failure. In this way they drag along through this beautiful world relating their tale of woe to every ear that will give them audience. They will multiply their imaginary sor rows by repeating them to every one with whom they come in contact, and go down and die without ever con tributing anything towards making this world better, or its people hap pier, while tne live man, t.e man with a soul in him as big as an ox pushes forward with a smile, a reso lution, a hand and mind to take hold of and make the best of every oppor tunity. If he fails he attributes it to bad judgment, miscalculation or force of circumstances, and not charge ing anything to "luck," he goes ahead and tries again, using more caution next time, and eventually succeeds. The cheerful man is the greatest of God's creation the hu man mind is partaker of its suVround ings. The cheerful man to a despond ent community is as the electric are light to a dismal thoroughfare. One cheerful mind can illuminate a whole country, while one dead creature of imaginary "ill luck" can make whole world tired. Let us wake up and each contribute his might to wards making the world better and happier, trusting to our energies and and Better judgment ana not to luck Colorado cupper. OUTGOING MAILS.
