A Study In White and Black. Two small boys, Willie and Jack The one was white, the other black Set out one day so peek some fun, And found it ere the day was done. They ppied a wasp's nest under the eaves, As thick with wasps as a tree with leaves; They punched it down and away they h-w; But not till the wasps had ttung them through. They climbed a tree to eat wild cherries: They crept through briars to pick blackber ries; They thrashed down nuts till they fell lkc rain, And dyed their hands with walnut stain. They went to fish in the meadow b'anch, And tried a pine-bark boat to launch; But both slipped in up to the waist, And both came out ic mud encased. They built a fire to fry their lish, Using a smooth white stone for a dish; By sooty fiames they were quickly smoked. By floating cinders, well nigh choked. They caught a dog, tied a can to his tail, Ihen pei died themselves on top of a rail, For the dog was mad and wanted to fight, And gave each naked leg a bite. They chased a squirrel through a tangled bog, They "treed" a rabbit in a hollow log; They tore their clothes to shreds and patches, And marked each face with wounds ami scratches. When evening came, they wandered back The boy that was white and the boy that was black But what with the stings, the smoke and the mud, The stain and the bites and the ripe cherries' blood, . 'lhe clothes that were torn to shreds and tat ters, The cnts and wounds, and such small mat ters, It sure was a study in white and black, To tell which was Willie and which was Jack. M. E. S. The Iron Center. Baltimore Sun. . Mr. Edward Atkinson, of Boston, was in Roanoke, Va , Saturday, on his return from a visit to a number of prominent points in the booming South. In conversation with a news paper interviewer Mr. Atkinson said that he had traveled entirely around the region desired by him as the citus of the iron industry of the world, and what he had seen had confirmed him in his statement that a man standing on top of Great Smoky mountain, in Western North Carolina could view the centre of the iron in dustry of the world. " In using that expression,' said Mr. Atkinson, " I mean by the centre of the iron indus try not that the iron industry will be centered there, but used the term rel atively as I would in speaking of the centre of the population in the Uni ted, States. I make this explanation that I may not be misunderstood. The iron industry will centre in Gran gliaat separate points, but this re gion, as I have said before, is to be the situs of the iron industry of the world. Russia is the curse of modern civil isation; the negation of its spirit, the connteractant of its intellectual for ces; the embargo on its social advance; lie antagonist of its political prog ress. TrTif VY R CLAIM that a combination of local anl constitutional treat ment is necessary to thoroughly eradicate Catarrh. Exclusively local , applications, if made when the trouble first begins, sometimes cure, but more frequently drive the disease to other parts of the system, where it develops in a far more serious form. Blood purifiers may improve the condition of the system, but they seldom cure for they do not reach the seat of the disease. Certain Catarrh Cure is the only preparation which combines local and constitutional ireatrtient, and can consistently claim to cure Catarrh in all its forms and stages. It is cheap, easily used, purely vegetable, entirely harmless. By it, others, who had no faith, have been cured: YOU CAN BE, whether you have had the disease one year or ftfty ; whether it is in the head, stomach or bladder. TRY IT NOW. DELAY IS DANGEROUS. Past Failures Need not Discourage You. $ 1,000 Rewarda Humbug! Don't Be Deckivicd by the offer of a large reward in case some medicine fails to cure you. If the reward is claimed, there is always some way to evade its pay ment; if never claimed, it is no evidenee'tfaat everybody, or anybody, has been cwred; but it speaks well for the intelligence of our people, that no one ia fool enough to expect its payment 91,000.600 might be offered with equal safety; for it is needless to say that the user Of such med icines always dies before their proprietors are convinced that he "can't be cured." It is one of the most deceptive schemes that ever insulted an enlightened people. We are disposed to give the pubhc every protection possible against the imposition of scheming frauds or worthless nostrums, but NO DEPENDENCE CAN BE PLACED IN GUARANTEES. If Con gress will pass a law by which all medi cines are subjected to a thorough test, and their merits in the diseases which they claim to cure are rally established before they can be offered for sale, we will heart ily favor it. An Honest remedy suffers more from the failure of other prepara tions to establish their claims, than from all other causes 'combined as disappoint ment in one medicine causes distrust in many. in Support of Our Claims, We oner the testimony of those who nave tried Certain Catarrh Cure to their entire satisfaction. "An ounce of experience is worth a pound of theory." Our endorsers are well known persons, who are alive and can be found. Not one of our testimoni als was purchased at any price. They are the voluntary expressions of parties who seek to benefit humanity. A perusal of them will surely convince you that our claims are well founded. If you have Catarrh, you cannot afford to be indiffer ent to its progress. Treatment cannot be commenced too early. The longer disease continues, the more time it will require to be eradicated. Your unsatisfactory experi ence with other remedies should not influ ence you against ours. Lay aside distrust ; give Certain Catarrh Cure a fair test, and ou will, throughout the remainder of your ife, feel thankful to us for the advice. We have handled Certain Catarrh Cure since its first introduction. It has given gen eral satisfaction, and sue, has been the in crease in demand, that our purchases during the last six months have amounted to nearly ttoeniy-fioe gross.
