Those who were abroad this morning at an early hour were surprised by a sudden glare in the southern heavens. It was caused by the explosion of a tank of gasoline on the tracks of the Louis ville and Nashville Railroad at Wild er's station, about a mile back of Newport, Ky. The tank was one of the tubular affairs that are carried on cars, and contained at least 2,000 gal lons of the inflammable stuff. It is probable the excessive heat of the day caused a volatile gas to ascend from the tank, which was ignited by a spark from an engine. Children Cry for Pitcher's Castoria. When Baby was sick, we gave her Castoria. When she was a Child, she cried for Castoria, When she became Miss, she clung to Castoria, When she had Children, she gave them Castoria. A Big Steal. Philadelphia Record. A defalcation of at least $150,000, and more likely $500,000 traced to Julio Merzbacher, the missing geuer al agent of the New York Life Insu rance Company for the West Indies and Spanish America, has staggered the officers of that great and im mensely wealthy concern. Merzbach er when accused of this gigaotic theft by his partner Joaquin Sanchez in South America Jast December, made a clean breast of the affair. Then notice was sent out to all agencies of the company in Spanish America that Merzbacher had retired, owing to ill health. Sam Jones at Little itock. The' Twin City Daily says. "The great religious revival at Little Rock, Arkansas, by Rev. Sam Jones, came to a close last Tuesday night. It is estimated that there were 10, 000 conversions during his stay in that city. The last night's meeting brought out an immense throng, the largest that ever assembled in that State. More than 18,000 were present and at least 5,000 were turned away for want of room. In Steuben county, N. Y., a few days since a young man named Scrip ture was sent to jail for six mouths for bad conduct. The police author ities there evidently thought him a sort of Scripture had needed some re vision. WO HARRIS, 118 East Martin st. Dyer and Cleaner. ja31 Raleigh Bnsluess Directory. F)T K CLAIM that a combination of local ani constitutional treat ment is necessary to thoroughly eradicate Catarrh. Exclusively local applications, if made when the trouble first begins, sometimes cure, but more frequently drive the disease to other parts of the system, where it develops in a far more serious form. Blood purifiers may improve the condition of the system, but they seldom cure for tbey do not reach the seat of the disease. Certain Catarrh Cure is the only preparation which combines local and constitutional treatment, and can consistently claim to cure Catarrh in all its forms and stages. It is cheap, easily used, purely vegetable, entirely harmless. By it, others, who had no faith, have been cured: YOU CAN BE, whether you have had the disease one year or fifty ; whether it is in the head, stomach or bladder TRY IT NOW. DELAY IS DANGEROUS. Past Failures Need not Discourage You. In Support of Our Claims, We offer the testimony of those who nave tried Certain Catarrh Cure to their entire satisfaction. "An ounce of experience is worth a pound of theory." Our endorsers are well known persons, who are alive and can be found. Not one of our testimoni als was purchased at any price. They are ttte, voluntary expressions of parties who wix to benefit humanity. A perusal of them will surely convince you that our cluinis are well founded. If you have Catarrh, you cannot afford to be indiffer ent to its progress. Treatment cannot be commenced too early. The longer disease continues, the more time it will require to bo eradicated. Your unsatisfactory experi ence with other remedies should not influ ence you against iure. Lay aside distrust ; give Certain Catarrh Cure a fair test, and you will, throughout the remainder of your iiTe, feel thankful to us for the advice. We have handled Certain Catarrh Cure since its first introduction. It has given grn eral satisfaction, and suck has been the in trtase in demand, that our purchases during the last sis months have amounted to nearly tusrJky-ftt gross. The Lamar Drug Co., dlUn Oa. May 1st, UK $1,000 Reward a Humbug! Don't Bs Dkcsitxs by the offer of a large reward in case some medicine falls to cure you. If the reward is claimed, there is always some way to evade its pay men t ; if never claimed, it is no evidence that everybody, or anybody, has been cured; but it speaks well for the intelligence of our people, that no one is fool enough to expect its payment $1,000.01)0 might be offered with equal safety; for it is needless to say that the user of such med icines always dies before their proprietors are convincod that he "can't be cured." It is one of the most deceptive schemes that ever insulted an ealightened people. We are disposed to give the public every protection possible against the imposition of scheming frauds or Worthless nostrums, but KO DEPENDENCE CAN BE PLACED IN GUARANTEES. If Con gress will pass a law by which all medi cines are subjected to a thorough test, and their merits in the diseases which they claim to cure are rally established before they can be onered tor sale, we will heart ily favor it. An honest remedy tuffr-'g more from the failure of other prepara tions to establish their claims, than from all other causes jcombined as disappoint ment in one medicine causes distrust in many. Certain Catarrh Cure is mentioned so fa vorably, by our customer t that we have great confidence in it merits. Alexander Drug and Heed Co Augusta, Ga. Its Harmlessiiess.
