Splendid Georgia watermelons in town at two cents a pound. A large addition to the ttockholders . of the Grimm Brown Stone company has been made. The encampment of the Y. M. C. A. at Wrightsville, this year, will be an interesting feature. The Coast Line hasdeclared a div idend of 4 per cent for the past six months. Take up a subscription for the Sol diers' Rome next Saturday. That is the idea, and a good cue. A full programme of the proceed ings on the 4th of July will appear to morrow. Dewey, who for some time past has been agent of the K. & D. Railroad, in this city will return to Charlotte where he formerly resi ded. We regret that he has decided to leave Raleigh. There was a very large crowd on the excursion to .Norfolk. A great many were taken up on the way be tween this city and Weldon, and when the train reached Portsmouth the coaches were full axd numbers were standing on the platforms. The Cross Bearers Circle, Kings' Daughters' will hold a special meet-, ing tonight at 8:30 o'clock, in the Sunday School room of Edenton Street M. E. Church. A full atten dance of the circle is most respectful ly desired as business of importance will be transacted. Let everybody come to Raleigh on the 4th. The railway rates are cheap and all can pass a day at the capital for a trilling sum. We are requested to state, that al though the time for listing State and county taxes has expired, yet for convenience of those who have failed to list, the time will be extended un til 7 o'clock, July 4th. Let us hope that the matter of a site for the proposed auditorium will not be overlooked. Remember, Gentlemen of the Board, that this is a public necessity. All the people want it. Switchback Railway. Every lady, gentleman and child is invited to attend the big races at the exposition on the 4th and to take a ride on the worlds renowned Switch back. Owing to the big entrance fee charged at the gate, 50cts, we will only charge 5 cents round trip ticket on the Switchback on the big 4th. Come one, come all. The Soldier's Home. Several citizens have suggested as a good idea that a collection be taken np next Saturday after the reading of the Declaration of Independence for the benefit of the Soldier's Home. The institution is still in need of all it can get. We think the suggestion a good one. Patriotic impulses may prompt a rich return. There is no better cause in which donations can be invested. I. O.
