Visitors to the exposition may rest assured that every effort to have an effi cient system of police regulations will be made. We hear that our most excellent chief of police has the matter under consideration, and a plan will no doubt be adopted which will meet all just expectation. There is no better governed city In the country than Raleigh, and the peo ple of North Carolina may rest as sured that when they visit the capi tal they can do so with the full as surance of receiving the amplest pro tection. We have heard but very little late ly of the committee appointed at a meeting held here a short time since to solicit contributions for the estab lishment of the colored Agricultural ; College in Raleigh. It was thought that a vigorous canvass would be 1 made for the purpose, and, we in dulged in the hope that the scheme would meet with success. There is no place in North Carolina more ap propriate for the site of such an in stitution than Raleigh and surely j there is no town in the State in which , reside a more intellegent colored population. We hope this matter may be pressed, and that our promi nent citizens will lend such help as they possably can. We have recently lost several fine additions to our city in this line, mainly, we must think by inactivity. To secure the prize we must be up and doing as there are a number of places in the State eager for it. Vigorous Preparation There in no let up lnthe work of preparation for the grand Inter State Exposition, nor will there be. In the matter of printing., Mr. Patrick is u - ' ing the utmost exertion to have the "big show" extensively advertised. I In addition to ilamingjposters, he has caused a large amount of lithograph j ing to be done in thejshape of de I signs, cards, &c, whi h will be dig triouted far and wide throughout ; tuio emu vtuci uiaiQD. a i liic luiiuui all is bustle, and the'workrt renova tioD is going on vigorously. The grand stand and other houses will be put in the most complete repair and the grounds most admirably arranged. In the meantime, the work of corres pondence is being pursued in vigor ous style. Letters are received daily, almost by the bushel, showing that the exposition is creating attention, not only in this, but in most of the civiliztd countries of the world. We are going to have a time in which ISorth Carolina and Raleigh especi ally can take a just pride. Hardware, &c. A Wholesale Ducking. On Sunday a'ternoou at Coney Is land, between 5 and (i o'clock, while a large number were congregated in a bathing and dancing pavilion and a pier 'attached, the pier gave way and about 100 persons were thrown into the angry surf. Strange to say no one is reported to have been drowned, though the water was about four feet deep and the waves high.
