Severance, August 7. Samuel
Freeman last eveniDg murdered his
wife and two year old son and then
committed suicide. Freeman was a
farmer and after attending to his
usual evening duties he returned to
th bouse.
His wife upbraided him for some
misconduct. He immediately drew
his revolver and shot her through
the head, killing her instantly. He
then turned the weapon upon his
baby ai.d shot him through the head.
Freeman them placed the revolver to
his right ear and blew his own brains
out.

delegations to the Grand Army En
enmpment at Detroit arrived in the
city yesterday was that of the De
partment of Louisiana and Missis
sippi. Comrade A. S. Graham and
others of the delegates say in pub
lished interviews that they are going
to Detroit to make ah issue on the
exclusion f negroes from the Grand
Army ranks and they declare that
unless their demand is acceded to,
they will withdraw from the organiza
tion. Tbey say they expect to bave
animated opposition from the North
ern parties.
