1 1 The Farmer'- Trouble. I UN 1ST IMRTB. I am greatly trouMed about my son, Pray tell nie, neighbor, what can be done, For he studies liy niht and studies by day A wasting lamp oil and brains away, And he looks so pale and so thin and white He might be taken for a ghost at night. He tells about kings and queem and wars. Invention of steamboat and railway cars, Of wonderful places beyond the sea, That do not interest either you or me, And tell about eople a thousand years dead Till I think the boy clear out of his head. Speak about stars, he can name every one, Knows the distance from my house to the sun; But how he found out I can't understand, For it isn't measured like I measure land; nd something else, neighbor; I must not fnnret. He says the sun does not rise and set. But not a useful thing does the boy know, For he cannot plow even a cotton row, Nor dig my potatoes, nor hoc the corn, And he'll starve to death when I'm dead and gone, For the laziest vagrant in all the land Is a ten time better fanner's hand. But there's something stranger yon must hear, The boy has been offered a thousand a vcar To fill some position of honor and trust, I know he's my son, but then to be just He'll lose his position when the people all know He can't hoe potatoes nor plow a straight row. Though the farmer thought his prediction wise The boy gained favor in other men's eyes By industry, study and honesty too His father's old maxim he proved quite un true, That a man can't succeed because he doesn't know How to manage farm or handle a hoa Children Cry for Pitcher's Castoria. When BDy was aick, we gave her Castoria. When fhe was a Child she cried for Castoris, When the became Miss, lb clung to Oaatoria, When she had Children, ahe gave them Oaatorta. Justifiable Homicide.
