Miss Maggie Reese has returned from the northern cities, and will in a few days display an elegant line of millinery for ladies and children. Oneol the interesting features at the Exposition will be the drawings and shape exercises from the Manual Training department of the Graded School of Charlotte. Mr. E. G. Gill, of Wake Forest, is here getting ready for the Wake county exhibit next week. He has collected fine specimens which will prove a great credit to the county. Ladies, ladies, think of the engage ments you have broken and the dis appointments consequent to others and perhaps also to yourselves, all on account of headache. Notwithstanding many warnings, evil disposed persons continue to tamper with the wire fence around Moore Park. The wires in some cases are badly twisted and in others they are pulled out of place. Such wanton conduct is almost unpardonable aid the perpetrators if found should be severely dealt with. Davis School Cadets are coming to the Exposition. Rev. Dr. Cordon preached last night to a crowded house. We learn that there are now about one hundred and sixty students at Peace Institute. This speaks well for the management of this most excellent school. The game of base ball played yes terday afternoon between the Win ston Blues and the Richmond Giants, at Winston, resulted in a victory for the Blues by a score of 5 to 3. Siuce the late decision of the com missioners appointed to determine the matter of damages intheCara leigh Railway case, the building of the road has been resumed from the county road to the Cotton Mills. Remember the special sale of table linen goods, curtains, and bed sets on next Tuesday, Sept. 29th at the New York Bargain House. The Oxlord Asylum Exhibit. Capt. J. B. Hunter, who has in charge the exhibit of the Oxford Asy luui, desires that the ladies of Ral eigh should interest themselves in its behalf. It is expected to be an ex hibit of much interest, and will no doubt attract general attention. If you have any table cloths, nap kins or towels to buy, wait for the special sale next Tuesday at the New York Bargain House. Personal Mention. Mi sses Mary Lee and Bessie Wyatt vho have been visiting friends in Durham, have returned home. Judge James E. Shepherd of the Supreme Court, is in the city. Misses Sallie Carter, Martha Hay wood and Minnie Tucker have arriv ed in New York from Europe. We were pleased to meet our ven erable friend Maj. A. M. Lewis on the street this morning. He has recently been much confined from sickness, but in now much improved. Hon. J Turner Morehead, of Leaks ville, was in the city yesterday. Mr. N. D. Roberts, press agent of Robinson's circus, is in the city. Judge Strong has returned from Durham where he went as counsel of the Durham Globe vs the Western Union Telegraph Co. The Globe lost the suit and appealed. Miss Louella Makeley and Miss Bessie Patterson of NewBerne came up yesterday to attend St. Mary's school the present session. Pretty fancy thing can be had by the older people and refreshments by all. Meeting. A meeting of the committee on the Normal and Industrial School took place last night. Maj. S. M. Finger, Chairman, Dr. R. A. Stanford, Prof. M. C. S. Noble and Prof. E. Mc K. Goodwin were present A plan for the building was agreed upon, which is chiefly the plan of Maj. Finger, as sisted by Mess. Epps & Hackett,arch itects. It is now expected that the buildings will be finished in time to open the school in the summer of 1892. "Jim. the Westerner." 1 ext Tuesday night this splendid representation will be placed on the boards at Metropolitan Hall. It has had a tremendous run wherever it has been presented throughout the coun try. The scenery is peculiarly adopted to the piece and is of beautiful de sign, while the performance is of the most chaste character.
