Night In the Country.
Oh, bird that lingers iu the boab.
Of twilight as it falleth,
Returu ye now unto your nwt;
List how your sweet mate called '
Oh, lowing cow haste to your fold.
Or yni will be belated
K iu now the milkmaid loudly el
Too long for you she lias waited !
From yonder church the chimin? h -'l
King for the Angehw sweet,
An . pious souls, with blended he vis.
I v evening prayer repeat,
llu locusts with discordant notes
A merry concert hold
A I xough the coming on of night
M ado their small hearts more bold.
The jessmme vine that shades the porch
r.reiks out its sweetest scent.
And wafting from the lilly wl
Are with its oders blent !
The low of kine and notes of birds
Grow fainter and more faii.t,
Even the tireless katydids
Have hushed their loud complaint.
The glimmering lights begin to shine
From many a window pane,
And mothers rock their babies and sing
A sweet good night refrain.
To all there comes a country peace,
The quiet of anight
That is wmoved from out the world,
Far Mr in tAie city's sight '.
