That Fearful Snore. Hear that fearful trumpet an ore. Load old more I What terrible and unearthly noises fourth it poire l A it rises and it lowers. Prom the ceilings to the floors. Now in thunder tones it roars. And how terribly it boes With its noise. Those who try in vain to close their weary eyelids in the night. For it rises like a screeching steam whistle with all its might. Tn the darkness of the night. It lowers and swells out right. With never a promise to cease And never gives us blissful peace, Although we sit in wrathful praise, Oh, the snore, snore, snore, snore, snore ! What a horror they outpour. Of despair. How it wheezes in the air, How it snorts I do declare, How the blood is chilled and frozen in the veins For the hearer fully knows, That the snoring And the snoring Will continue to reign. And the ear distinctly keeps All the snuffling, And the shuffling, How the snorer soundly sleeps, By the rising or the falling in the wilderness of the snore Of the snore Of the snore, snore, bnore, snore, snore. In the roaring and the soaring of the snore ! Didn't Know he Was Dead, Not long ago I was riding along a mountain trail (it shouldn't be digni fied with the name of road) in Carter county, east Tennessee, says a cor respondent of thePhiladelphia Press, whan an old fellow darted out from the door of a low cabin, jumped the rail fence in front, and came tearing down toward me as if a marshal had been in close pursuit. ' Hello, stranger; stay er minotel" he yell, d, gesticulating wildly with his right hand, but never breaking his gait. I drew rein He cam up puffing and blowing, with his eyes quivering with wild ex citement. "Say, mister (pant, pant.) is it so ?" "Is what so?" 1 returned. Why, han't ye hearn ?" "Heard what V" was my astonished rejoinder. "I gnats if ye an't hearn, it can't be so," and a hopeful light dawned in his anxious eyes. "I don't? know what you're inquir ing about, I'm sore," 1 spoke; "what is it you want to know ?" "Iz it so, or iz it not so, that Gineral Jackson is dead?" "I think so " I replied with as much solemnity as I could muster. "Wall, it's awfnl to think uv, an't it ?" said the old fellow, gloomily. "TeB, it's bad." "Are you shore, though it is so ?" "I read it." " What did yer read it in ther Bi ble?" "No." "Oh, well, I'd haf ter read it in the Bible thet the oje Gineral had pegged out 'fore I'd berlieved it. That ar' re 'port's jis' been put out ter keep us fellows from votin' fer him so's they 'cud git dnr votes fer .some other fel low for President ! Good bye, stran ger." And the old man turned toward the house well satisfied that Gen. Jaekson reigned, and as a consequence, the government at Washington still lived. We have sold over half a million volumes in six months; proof that the public appreciate so great a bargain. This reprint is not an abridgment, but a re production of the entire twenty-five volumes of the great Edinburg ninth edition, page for page, with new and later articles on import ant American topics, and new maps, later and better than in any other edition. In all repects it compares favorably with the hteh priced editions, and in point of maps and du rability of binding it is superior to them. Heretofore we have sold only for cash. We now announce that we will deliver the set complete on small easy payments, Special Office.
