Hope it will not reach us, and will not tarry long if it does. Let everybody put their shoulders to the wheel and boom up the World's Pair at Chicago. North Carolina should be well represented. The bank examiner has declared that the Prst National Bank of Wil mington is insolvent and suggests the appointment of a receiver. This looks rather bad for the depositors. The McDougald trial at Fayette ville is to be published in pamphlet from, at the offc of the Payetteville Observer. It will include the charge to the jury, with pictures of Judge Molver and the attorneys on both aides. The Lireetors of ihe Durham Far mers Alliance Tobacco Manufacturing Company have declared a dividend of ten per cent to the stockholders. This is ahead of government bonds. A great many persons who would otherwise ride on the street cars are shy of doing so, because of the fact that the weather is too cold for an airing in an open summer car in mid winter. It really seems that the com pany are much in their own light in this matter. In these times of grippe and pneu monia, a person would only be invit log a doctor's bill to attempt such in discretion. On the night of the 29th inst., Mr. John Mitter a deaf mute and a teach er at the Institution for the deaf and dumb and the blind, will give a pan tocaine exhibition at Metropolitan Hall for the benefit of St. John's Hospital. Mr. Mitter needs for the occasion a velvet costume, and if some person will lend him one, it will be duly appreciated. He is five feet seven inches tall. Interesting Services. There was a large attendance at the church of the Good Shepherd this morning at 11 o'clock, the oc casion being the observances in honor of Bishop Lyman, who delivered an address as did also Rev. Dr. M. M. Marshall. Ihere were many Episco pal Clergymen present from different sections of North Carolina. Mr. Edwin Turrentine, a well known gentleman residing near Chapel Hill, in Orange county, died a few days ago, from hydrophobia, caused from the bite of a hog. The animal had gotten out of its pen when he attempted to get it back. The hog became enraged and bit Mr. Turrentine on the foot causing a slight wound; while plowing in a field shortly afterwards he was taken with the disease. When found he had lacerated the flesh on his arm and chewed his tongue in a frightful manner. Mr. Turrentine belongs to a family well-known in Raleigh, who will deeply regret to hear of his sad death Personal mention. Hon W. R. Cox is in the city. Mr. Greek 0. Andrews has an attack of the grippe. Mr. H. T. Plummer of Petersburg, Va., is in, the city. Mr. Albert Johnson is still very ill at his residence on Hillsboro street. Maj. A M. Lewis was on the streets today, looking much improved. Mies Ethel Bagley has returned from a visit to Wilmington. President Winston, of Chapel Hill is in the city. We are glad to learn that the chiU dren of Mr. A. Dughi who have been quite sick are all improving. Rev. R. H. Whitaker is impro-ing and Dr. J. A. Cuninggim is reported better today. Rev. Dr. J. B. R. Hill who has been quite sick for several days past, we regret to learn is still confined to his bed with no improvement in his con dition. Mr. Edward Benedict of Warrenton is in the city, the guest of Mr. S. P. Child. Fine Shoes.
