We'll Pop Some or u Tonight.
How i he north, wind wli . . lea
Down the valley white;
John, go get the hopper,
We'll pop come corn tonight.
The coals are ai. a-glowing,
Plump, go get the popper,
We'll pop some corn tonight.
It's just the night for laughter,
It's just the night for fun;
We will out roar old Boreas,
For we are five to one.
Come, Bern help with tha shelling,
Nell, get a basin bright,
And John, come, shake the popper,
We'll pop some corn tonight.
The giddy corn is dancing
And jumping all about;
Be careful, John, be careful,
Or it will all hop out
And bnrn to crisp unless you
Shake with all your might;
Bo shake the pepper lively.
While we pop the corn tonight.

PEFFER FOR PROHIBITION.
Topbka, Kan., Feb. 1. Three weeks
ago the ministers representing about
forty congregations in this city passed
resolutions petitioning the members
of Congress from Kansas to do all
they could to secure prohibition in
the District of Columbia. Senator
Peffer has replied. He says :
I am in receipt of the resolutions
adoped January. 7 by the Ministerial
Union in relation to the legal prohi
bition of the liquor traffic. I hope
that the movement in Washington
by the representatives of the people
to prohibit this nefarious traffic will
be successful. There is no efficient
way to deal with the business of
dam selling but to prohibit it ; any
other course is merely temporizing

A POET IN COURT.
The mayor of Goldsboro is some
times troubled with poets as well as
niespaper editors. The Argus in its
report of the mayor's court, in with
other comically arranged cases, h s
the following:
"Your Honor, I am not guilfy; I am
a victim of misfortune; I can give you
a history of my life that would make
the heart of a pine log sad
"A story to you I would like to un
fold.
Of a life that is checkered v, it Ji woe;
I beg of your honor have mercy
Will you not allow me to go?
"I'll, march out of your town in a
hurry;
I'll jump the through freight at the
tank,
In Weldoh I'll be at two thirty;
May I not go? Yes? God bleBS you.
Thanks."
- He went.
