The following is the synopsis of the w wither at 8 a m. today: The cleanup condition lingers over Florida. Warmer, fair weather, with contherly winds, rrevnils over the Atlantic and East Gait States. The storm, yesterday observer' over Kansas, has separated into two parts, one part moving northeastward to New York; the other southeast ward to Louisiana. Members of the Railroad Relief As sociatlon will please meet promptly at 8:15 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the association reading room to at tend the funeral of our late brother, Mr. J W. Mullen. By order of the Association. The regular monthly meeting of the County Commissioners will take place next Monday. It is to be hoped that they will take some action rela tive to procuring an index book. It may be supposed that we are too ina portunate in our demands, but we know whereof we speak, when we say, that our people most earnestly desire this matter attended to. The Baptist Mission Sunday School located near the Agricultural and Mechanical College is growing in in terest, importance and a tendance. The church is now provided with a bell which will ring the first call to the Sunday School tomorrow af ter noon at 8 o'clock. We have been ehowu a pamphlet -ntitled "An appeal for State care for all tbe Insane'' prepared by Dr. Isaac M Taylor, assistant physician of the State hospital, Morganton, N. C. Dr Taylor eetiinates the number of insane in the State unprovided for at about 1 40C He gives many and nrorer reasous why North Carolina 'bould make proper provision for this c'ass of unfortunates, and declares that the longer it is delayed the greater must be the first outlay for their accommodation and support. We must think, that the book will have much effect in producing a movement in the next General As sembly, favorable to more extended accommodations for the insane. It is a matter that must appeal to the humanity of our people. Meeting of Aldermen. laxt night was the regular monthly meeting of, the Board of Alderman. Considerable holiness was transacted, of which tbe following is a synopsis: The report of the finance commit tee was adopted The street ci mmissfoner recom mended that the R. and D Railroad place a bridge over the r- d where Cannon st'eet crosses it and open up the road on the south side to Manly street. He ulso recommended the use of flat rails on the line ot s reet rail wfty on Hargett and Dawson streets to Union depot. Petitions were received from pever al parties relative to improvements of property, &c The resignation of AldermanQrim' s was laid on the table for tbe present. The matter of charity prescriptions was referred for investigation to the finan.e committee, 'ihe following resolution by Alderman Stronacb, was adopted Resolve d, That the mayor appoint a committee on tbe part of the city government from the Board of Alder men to act in conjunct ion with the citizens' committee in raising funds and furthering all plans; also that said con mittee are requested to be present on the occasion of the chris tening and presentation of the cruiser Raleigh. -I II Towels, Towels.
