Two handsome cottages are being built in what is known as the old Orowder homestead, on West Jones street. This is in the right direction, and we hope it will be followed by others. W hatever is' done in the matter of getting up a subscription for a North Oaiolina house, et the Chicago expo sition, must be done soon. State Agent Worth says that orders are being daily received for grass seed in large quantities, which he thinks is indicative of the progressive movement among the farmers of the 9tate. Vass and J. B Batchelor Esq., has gone to Baltimore to attend a meet ing of the Directors of the Raleigh a. d Gaston Railroad. Another Burglary. Early this morning, as far as can be judged, about 4 o'clock, the grocery store of Mr. Britton Pearce, on the corner of Person and Cabarrus streets, was entered and a considerable quan tity of light groceries taken. The entrance was made by cutting a large hole in the door through which, it is evident, the thieves inserted tbeir bands and removed the bar which fastened the door on the inside. There seems to be no clue to the per petrators, but it is the supposition that they are the same who robbed the premises of Mr. John Devereux on Wednesday night. It is clear that we have in our midst an organized crowd of thieves, and it becomes our people to be constantly on the alert Burglary is one of the crimes for which the death penalty is provided in North Carolina. The man or men who would break into private houses would hardly hesitate to commit murder. ' Such people should be promptly dealt with, and a load of buckshot would not be inappropri ate if they are caught in the act. Served Him Right. Yesterday afternoon Mayor Badger bad on trial a young colored man named Thomas Bradford for a breach of the peace. Duri"tr the trial Brad ford was plat d on ihe stand as a witnes s.
