Colder Sunday morning. Slowly rising tern perature Sunday and Monday. RALKIGH AND VICINITY. Fair today and Sunlay; slightly warmer Sunday. Local data for 24 hours ending 8 a m. today: Maximum temperature, Minimum temperature Rainfall, ITY IN BRIEF. 66 75 1.60 Rev. Kenneth D. Holmes will fill the pulpit at Central M. E. Church tomorrow, morning and night. We have frequent occasion to look over reports of officials, public docu ments. Ac, from other cities and towns oml among these we frequent ly cee engraviu.s of city halls, either completed or in course of erection. As a general rule, they are of line . a stvle of architecture, well arrangea with all modern improvements. Ral eigh is now getting large enough lor a new building of the kind, and we hope that only a few years will roll by before can have one. The present location of the officials of Raleigh is not exactly adequate to the wants of the ity. The creeks are very high. The usual calm after a storm. Now let us hope for some good we it her. A large number of northein gentle men are in the city. Gov Holt returned to the city yes terday afternoon. A considerable number of country people were in the city today. Gardens have suffered much from heavy washing. rhe tmin from the north ws con siderably behind yesterday afternoon We hear that the lightning pranced around pretty profusely in the tele graphic offlc s yesterday. Oakwood Cemetery now presents a most beautiful apparance dressed iD the livery of spring. We are glad.;o learn that the con dition of officer Lewellen has some. what improved. The heavy rains have rather dump ened the spirits of the knights of ti e hook and line. In the matter of fish and oysters alone there would be an immense benefit to this city if the Albemarle and Raleigh read w ere extended. A special meeting of Beaton Gales Lodge, No. 64, I. O. O. F.. is called for tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock haro to attend the funeral of the late Mr. W. T Woodward. The Lyon Racket Store has pre pared and will soon put up a m-s beautiful and attractive sign It rp resents the hesd of a lion and is very amimated in appearance. The funeral of Mr. W. T. Wood ward will be he'd tomorrow (Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from Centra M. E. Church, coi. ducted by Rev. K D. Holmes, assisted by Rev. J. N Cole. He will be buried by the I. O. 0. F. and Knights of Pythias. The conductors and motor men of the electric streetcars, weathered the storm bravely yesterday, although they were compelled to suspend for awhile. 1 hoy seem to be devoted to their duty in all . respects. We have no doubt that when the other additional engine at the power power house is put in position, the Hargett street line will be open to travel. Manager Huff is fully up to the times, so far as the wants of our people are concerned, and he will lose no more time than is absolutely necessary. We can depend on that. The Rev. J. A. Vance, pastor of the Maryland Avenue Presbyterian Church of Baltimore, is in the city, the gnest of Capt. John B. Burwell and -will occupy the pulpit of the Plrsfc Presbyterian Church city at 11 a. m. Special meeting of CentreLrdge So. 8, K. of P. 1 h; re will be a special meeting of Centre Lodge on tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 3 o'clock sharp for the purpose of attending the funeral ser vices of our late Bro. W. T. Wood ward. W. W. Wilson, K of R. and 8. Correction. In our issue of yesterday we an nounced the death of Mr Albert H. Dowell, a gentleman who was known to many of our people. We are glad to state that our in formant, Mr. Moses N. Amis, was in error in relation to the death of Mr. Dowell, or the circumstances sur rounding it. We hear that Mr. Dowell la not only living but improving, as we learn that he has been extremely ill A Pleasant Occasion. An impromptu gathering and neigh borhood fish fry at the pond of Mr. Jno. Watkins. of Wake Forest town ship, on Easter Monday, proved to be an exceedingly enjoyable occasion. Our friend, Mr. E, R. Pace, was met at Neuse depot by Mr. J. R. Watkins and taken to his home where he spent the night very pleasantly. At a reasonably early hour they drove to the pond which was to be partial ly turned off. The people began to gather from all directions, with bask e st nd other arrangements for com fort. They cume in all sorts of con veyances and by ten o'clock about a hundred people had gathered, and then beirau the fishing which was a grand success Carp and chub were the principal catch, ranging from three to five pounds Everybody had all the fish they could eat. But the good people had more than amply provided for double the number had the fishine been a failure. Mr. Pace says everybody seemed to wear t - luile.aud remarkable as it may seem be; did not hear hard times or politics mentioned. These occasions are oases in life's desert. They are the very best sort of a tonic to numbers. M UK IS' DRY GOODS STOUE. Specialties. New Hue Shautong Pongee's just opened at Norm' Dry Goods 8tore. No store in the State from one ex treuse to the other, from Murphy to Manteo, is doing as much business this spring as they did last spring, yet there is one excep tion. Swindell is not only doing as much but is right now doing more than double. If yon are not deaf, dumb, blind and an idiot you '-an comprehend the cause. The price is doiner the work. It is not the de mand for goods, but when a man, or woman, or child goes into Swin dell's store and asks to see a pair of shoes and she is charged $1 for the shoe she sees at once she has been paying $1.25 for this same shoe. Then she asks to see ginghams, and she is charged 8 cent for ginghams, which she knows she has been asked 15 cts for at another place. Then she wants shirting calico, and this is offered at 4 cents. Do yoa think this will not convince her when the goods are sold cheap? Then why can Swindell sell these goods at these prices? Because Swindell takes the trouble to find the goods and when he has found them he planks down the money for them and as Us no favors We under buy because we can. We undersell because we will Yours truly, D. T. 8win Dull. About 4 o'elock this p m a serious cutting occurred at the Lyo Racked 8tore which lias since proved dangerous.
