The Medical Convention of North
Carolina met yesterday at Wilming
ton and was called to order by Dr T

Opening.
Last evening there was a good at
tendance at the opening of the gym
nasiuni of the Toung Men's Christian
Association. The exercises were led
by the general secretary, Mr. Atkin
son, and were of an interesting char
acter. In a few days regular classes
will be formed. One of these will
me t in the afternoon for young men
and another at such time as will be
convenient for business men. We
hODe the .gymnasium will be well
patronized by all the members of the
association.

The Democratic Convention
Met at nooa today and was called
to order by E1. Chambers Smith.

tive Committee.
It is perhaps the largest convention
of a political character that has ever
assembled in North Carolina. In
common with our people generally
we hope tha' Its actions may be as
bariuonio'is as pchm l, and that they
may redound to the interests of the
people of the State.
It will harlly bes th it we can
give In our isue today anything like
an extended accouat of proceedings,
as the body will not, we presume, or
ganize betore our time of going to
press. At this meeting there is no
indication as to wha will be perma
nent chairman.
The convention was temporarily or
ganized Bt 12 o'clock by appointment
of L S. Overman, of Rowan, chair
man, and Robt. M. Furman, secre
tary.

permanent organization are straight
