"Tobe" Marshall has invented a new idea of disposing of dangerous canines He "smothers" them with chloroform and the animal goes out of the world without pain. "Tobe" says he puts it on the ground of "kindness to animals." Can't our railroad authorities af ford to put dowu the fair to one cent a mile for our contennial and 4th of July celebrations? They will hardly make any money at those rates, but patriotism should shine out brighth on such occasions. We believe the authorities will agree to it if proper appeals are made. Ten thousand visitors on the oc casion of our centennial, would surely average one dollar a piece. - left with us. This seems a fair estimate. This would be $10,000 for our business men and hotels don't you see? Then let us go to woik and offer such induce ments as will secure their attendance. A citizens committee from. each of the wards and suburbs should be ap pointed on the centennial and fourth of July celebrations, so that a rous ing sentiment of the people in favor of the movements can be worked up. The Mayor has acted and so has the Chamber of Commerce and the Agri cultural Society. Now let the peo pie at large speak out in mass meet ing Nothing like proper eclat to ensure success. The man who shakes the bush, fref qnently loses the hare. Indeed, such mode of procedure usually prevails. The case of the old man and old wo man, both killing the bear, when on ly one of them used the club, is fre quently re-enacted. Thousands are standing with open arms and expan ded hands, to grab, whatever is good from their neighbor's efforts who very hurriedly condemn any slipup with the stereotyped, disgruntled declaration, of " I told you so ? We liveinageat world, with any num ber, of great folks in it. A convention of the Third party will be held in this city tomorrow. . Wake Forest commencement Is over. It has been a most interesting occasion To morrow has been set apart for third party meetings throughout the state. The Greensbcro water company has been placed in the hands of a re ceiver.
