Mr. Junius Uzzle, who for sometime has been one of the accommodating conductors of our street railway, left yef tfciday afternoon for Winston where he takes a position in the new Zinzendorf hotel We wish "June" all the success possible He is a clever gentleman in all respects. On and after today, persons leaving this city on the 7 o'clock a. m. train can make close connection at Dur ham with a train for Oxford, Clerks'.' ville and Buffalo Lithia Springs. The train leaves Durham at 7.58 a m. ar riving at Oxford at 9.40 a. m. and Clarksville at 11.30 a. m. The torrid season is here. Be on hand at - the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce tomorrow night, and find out what surprises are in store. Another fruit and vegetable seasou is fast passing away and still we hav. no canning factory in or near Raleigh. What is the matter with our moneyed folks any way ? The residents on Hilleboro street think there ought to be a light just this side of the railroad bridge. Bouio of them requested us to call atten tion to it. Intelligence has been received at the revenue department of the seizure near Tabernacle, Guilford county, of a ninety galloa illicit distillery owned and operated by two men named Borernan and Allred. It is now said that the claim of Rt ceiver ll hiason, of the defunct Firp', National Bank of JViluiingtou.agRiU'.t the Dawson estate for $24,000, will not b mount to anything Attach iuouts have been issued but the pro perty is secured and cannot be'touch d now. Rumor The au ie full of rl ami - hey lorieud great achirveuKnts bp "ti cial to our beautiful "" ity oi O i!-s " W know iothi; oermiu, and there fore we do not pretend to make what is called a "point blpnk statement." We hear rumors, however, and, it is our u:does to tell r.he.uj, hs "coming e'-erds ( -ometiinet.) cut their shai'ow before " There is much railroad talk lots of it. 'flier is so .etMnr in the. air that means business Our people may be sure of this Groat biz things ure on the tapis but thofe v ho appear to be in the c-utHcneo, wont, e act' y toll You ask them what all this means, and ton to one ho chap of w'.ou: yoi niike tie q -tcrv, ill. pi ce hiu fr-.(iger ou ihe right ide of his nasal organ, shut bis left eye, wink with the oth r and tell you to look out. for news of the most astounding character. You may guess to your hearts conteut, but, no mat ter You must, rest yo r souls in patience until the grand de noument which will dv.ke thing up giBral!y to a greater extent than was experienced on., that fateful 3isc of Auirust some yers ago, when the quaking of old mother earth made u a shake with trembling and fear. But.a truce to facetioasnesB and more of solid busiuf.es What if a direct road i i tha direc tion of the Cape Feur section should be built from Raleigh to tap the al most boundless and virgin forest and bring hence millions of feet of lum ber for building purposes, thus m ik ing Raleigh a market of no mean pre tensions in that line of industry ? This may be so we guoss it. What if the Atlantic Coast Line folks tired, worn out, and disgusted with the long time rested terminus of the so-called Albemarle and Raleigh railroad, at a point where the howl iug of the owls at night, and the whistling of the partridge by day, are the only sounds that break the solemn monotony of the surroundings should have suddenly determined to push forward to the civilization so apparent in the capital city of the old North State? This, too, is among the huge probabilities of the near future so we guess. What if the Norfolk and Western railway folks having cast an eye to wards the Seacoast, find that a good chance to reach the "briny deep" is through our city, where it can join hands with the Albemarle and Ral. eigh extension in its 'march to the sea" we make a rough guess in this direction also. But what is the use of indulging in wild speculations? There will be a meeting o' the Chamber of Com roerce tomorrow night. It will be an open meeting and great developments are expected. Let all attend. We are on the eve of realizing "great ex pectations." Watch and wait. 1M".
