Oapt Benson informed us to-day, that while his little son,Claude showed j signs of improvement, ,ne had not vet regained consciousness It is hoped however, that he has passed the danger line. It strikes us that the heart plank paveiij!nt recommended by our friend B. P Williamson should be given a trial It look liRe he has "hit the oail on I lie bend." We have no official announcement of the matter but we hear that it is in contemplation ,to invite Hon. K. P Battle, to deliver an address at the centennial celebration. Th9 fare will be $1 30 for the round trip. Judges Merrimon and Clark, Marshal Bradley andbther friends will go down. It is now thought that the matter of opening Morgan street will be pushed forward. It has been in con temptation for several years. We should think it would not enly be of great service to the community at large, but will much enhance the value of property in the western en? of the city. This looks like a natural view of the subject. . The reduction of the road tax in Raleigh township from 8 to 5 cents is not intended to curtail work on the roads, as there will be no necessity for it. A Jones received a telegram this morning from his wife at Louis burg, announcing the death of Miss Mary Ann Spencer, whih occurred last night about 6 o'clock.
