There was a large and highly de lighted crowd in attendance yester day afternoon to witness the formal opening of Brookside Park, and ev ery preparation had been made for the occasion by Manager Huff. The grounds and pavilion were crowded with ladies, gentlemen and children, and everything went off as happy as a marriage fast. The christening speech of the Park was made by our fellow citizen R. T. Gray, Esq , and it gtes without saying that it was done in the happiest style. The vote was taken to name the three boats resulting in the choice of Miss Lillie Gray receiviog 115 votes and Miss Mattie Pace 63. The following boat races were held. First Rowing race. Won by Messrs. Baker and Pittman. Time, one min ute and forty seconds. Second Sculling race. Won by R. I. Todd. Time, two minutes and thirty secodds. Third Paddle race. Won by Wm. Bonner. Time, three minutes and thirty seconds. Hugh Sater won the swimming race in two minutes and forty seconds The diving race for time under water and distance was won by Robert Lawrence. The tub race closed the enjoyment much to the delight of all. Ho! For Itifliuicud! The last and grandest excursion of the season will he run frou Kaligh to Richmond, V.i , leavjug Ilaleich at :30 a iij on Augunt 24th and arriving at Richmond at 4 30 p. m This train ! will reach Richmond in ample time to take the steamer or train for Wash ington. Baltimore and Philadelphia, returning in time fur train which leaves Richmond for honn Friday, the Stilh at 11 a m.
