Horrible Murder.
Early yesterday morning news was
received in this city that a most das
tardly murder had been committed
at Burlington, Alamance county.
The reports are very meagre and we
have been unable to gather many
particular?. From what we can gath
er, Mr. Matthews, a very worthy citi
zen engaged in the mercantile busi
ness, beard some person or persons
about 2 o'clock yesterday morning
picking the lock at his back door. He
took a gun which he usually kept in
the room in which he slept and went
out of the front door. He then start
ed for the rear of the premises
through an alley. When about mid
way he was fired upon by the thief
or thieves and killed. As Boon as the
murder becaire known the greatest
excitement prevailed, and every ef
fort made to ferret out the murder
erg. We learn that an arrest has been
made and there is reason to believe
that the right man has been secured.

Something New.
I have just been to the North State
Music store and seen the new pedal
extension for the organ. Why, my
little Mary, only five ytars old, sur
tTised me. I just raised the stool so
her hands were well above the key
board, and her feet rested flat on the
pedais. She can finger and pedal
with as much ease as I can. And they
can be put on any organ. They are a
bleseiDg.
We have lots of remnants which we
sell at half retail price.
