In view of the sad dispensations of
Providence that have so recently at
tended us, the Cleveland Carr club
held a meeting last night and decided
to abandon the proposed celebration
in this city until the inauguration of
the governor in January next.
Messrs Geo C. Heck, H. D Blake,
B. C. Beck with, Chas. Dixon and G.
E. Leach were appointed a commit
tee to notify those speakers who have
ben invited.
The following resolution' was intro
duced by Col. W. R. Richardson and
unanimously adopted: :
Resolved, That the members of the
Cleveland-Carr club have heard with
the deepest regret and most profound
sorrow of the death of Hon A. S.
Merrimon, chief justice, and Hon. D.
W. Bain.treasurer of North Carolina,
and o tender to their bereaved fam
tlies our condolence and sympathy in
this hour of their sad afflcrion.
On motion of Mr. Go C Heck the
thanks of the club were .tendered to
Presideut Frans Stronach for his
faithful and untiring labors.
