(die If 13 PtC ernti t VOL. XXV11I. RALEIGH, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9. 1892. NO. 41 U.H. Circuit Court. The case of Mrs. L. A. Crabtree against the Old Dominion 8teamhip Company occupied the attention if the eoort today by argument of coun el. Died. LtBt evening at 6:00 o'clock, at the residence of her parents, on North Blount street, after a brief illness, Myrt'e May, daughter of N. A. and A. E. Glenn, of this city, aged 8 years. Little Myrtle was a favorite with all who knew her. She bore her ill ness with christian fortitude and not a murmur of complaint escaped her lips. Her fond parents have our 6iocerest sympathy in their bereavement but while they have cne treasure less on earth they are comforted by kuowioir they have one more in heaven. "The Lord giveth ani the Lord Jtaketh awiv." The funeral took place this after noon at 3 o'clock from the residence The Bnptist Convention. The convention assembled this morning and proceeded to business. The wotl important features of the proceedings "up to the adjournment for diiaer vas the discasiuon of the subject of missions whicti covered a broad field and was participated in by several distinguished gentlemen Most interesting remarks were deliv ered by Rev. Dr. Frost of N-ihville Teun , and h most e'ahorate argn meut was made by Rev. Dr. Tupper of Richmond Va., in favor of ezteod- tnar the fields of foreign missions He said that more menjand means were needed for the work, claiming that an addition of forty missionaries were wanted for labor in Mexico, South America and Italy and sixty more fv China and other countries The sixty-second annual report of the board of missions and Sunday schools is most interesting. Among the deaths for the pas'-, year is noted the following. T B Justice, of RatherfordtoD, in his 79th year. J J James, of Caswell county, in -. his 78th ye-r. J, A Hill, of Waxhaw, in his 74th ' year.-' WW Kennedy, of Warsaw, in his 87th year W J ilkie of Rutherford county in his 63d year. J L Cottingham, of Williams' Mills, in his 31st, year. A T Denney.of Person eouat.y.in his 24th year. It, is stated that Mrs M C Yates, of Shanghai, Ohina, is-eTpecW to visit this state in the early srin ; of 1893 Concerning the foreign mission board the report says : We congratulate our foreign mls mion board- upon the fact that the contributions to its work have dnub led each decade since its organizn. tionsin 184. ' Then, too, from May lst,189l,to Deo. 1st, 1891. the treasury of foreign mis sion board, Richmond, Virginia, re ceiled $44. and between rhe tamo dates of this year he received $53.3' 9 56. This shows an increase in receipts in thse seven nioaths of this year over the same months of last year, for the regular work, of $8,66814. While this is not all that miht have been done, nor all we had hoped would have been done, yet when the conditions and influences with which the work has bad to contend are fully understood, this increase is the most remarkable in the history of the board, and a cause o'.gratitude to God for his guiding hand arid over ruling providences for the further ance of the gospel Mr. F. R. Upchuroh, recently of the Postal Telegraph Co. of this city has, accepted a position as manager of the same company at Wake Forest. A committee of Winston citizens have gone north to investigate the fire alarm systems for the purpose of getting the beat( Married.
