Thikm, Sec. Fuueral. The funeral services of Fdwln, the two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Moseley of Durham, whose death oc curred at the Yarboro House yester day, took place this morning. The interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. The stricken parents have the sympathy of our community. The Weather Today. For North Carolina : Cloudy or foggy, possibly light rain near the coast. Since our Wild West Show exhibi ted here during the state fair, all sorts of athletic PX9rcUes have hn tried by our youngsters nnd some of mature age, hae even attempted to test their limbs In the new art Kicking, climbing &o , seem to be the favorite am n cements, some from mere love of sport, and others from necessity. Frequently, however then is a lack of calculation as the follow ing episode will show. A few rights since one of our most, estimable and good natured young men, after the turmoil and business of the day, con eluded to pay his best girl a visit Like lovesick swains often do, he rathr overleaped the time, and when he reach id home, it was in the small hours of the morning. All the homefolks were asleep and he did not wish to disturb them. He there fore made a survey of the front porch and concluded he could climb the, post, crawl on the roof aa l ent?r by the way of one of the windows. So far, so good, but he failed to take into consideration the projection of the eaves of the porch, for, when be reached the top of the post and at tempted to get on the roof, his cloth ing became entangled iu ue edge of the projecting eaves aud he could neither ascend nor descend In this predicament he cried out lustily for help, even imploring his best girl to come to his relief. His alarm awak ened his room mate who xtricat"d him from the dilema. Next morn ing he was absent from business, on ' the plea of "Bonmambulistic epide mic." During the next day in hi delirium, n pealed forth the popn lar ditty, . "My gal, she lives in Baltimore Street cars run right by the door. To this he adds th latest version of'Tarara boom de ay." He wH never climb again. Attention is directed to the adver tisement of Messrs W. C. & A. B. Stronaoh, who are now "on top" in the matter of preparation for the Christmas holidays. These gentle men carry every conceivable article . in the fancy and heavy grocery trade that can possible be found on the market. Their candy, orange, raisin, and nutB have a reputation in the city and state enjoyed by few estab lishments. An enumeration in our contracted space would be impossi ble. A visit to the house 1b absolute ly necessary to find out the vast as sortment. All who are fixing up for Christmas will be in their own light, not to call at once No such variety has ever been seen here before. Re member that there is nothing in their line that cannot be furnished The cancellation of mortgages con tinues active. It is a sign of better times. . The Colored Ayliun. The report of the colored Insane Asylim at Goldsboro, has been re ceived for the year ending November 9,0. leOI, and ltlis a document of much luterest- There had been admitted 79 male and 88 fema'e patients, and the total number treated at the in stitution up to that date was 411 The cures have exceeded 40 per cent. The report asks for an appropriation of $11,000 and it should have it by all means. Morgan Street. We are pleased to note, that in ad dition to the feeble cal's the Visi or has from time to time made for the extension of Morgan street, the meet inj rt lh chamber of commerce last Tuesday night, added the weight of its h fl'tence It is, of course, pre sumed that the chamber represents the business interests of our city, and hence the call upon the board should at least met-t with respectful atten tion. Let tig hope, at least, that the board of aldsriuen will now act, or let the public kmw why. The time for temporizing on this subject Is passed, and the people demand speedy action. The board should either carry out the order that it has long rinoe made or rescind it. Swedish Quartet. The great musical evnt of the sea son will take place tonight e-t, Metro politan Hall whn the Swedish quar tet wilt render one of their ad irable performances which has taken the public by storm. The press every where tem with its praise. The Washiugton. D C , Star says: Whs "Home, Sweet Home" ever suug without affecting some of the andi"c to tears? and as the last n tes died nwy in a silvery whisper, the silence in the grand tabernacle was almost oppressive From the first until the fio ' I number the Swe dish quartet and their audience were thoroughly en rapport, pleasure and good feeling being manifested throughout. The Right8plrit. We take pleasure in printing the following extract from our esteemed contemporary, the Wilmington Mes senger. It Is certainly refreshing to us at th capital to get words of en couragement from such a soarce, they being in striking contrast with some that evidently have their birth in a spirit of mean envy, not to say mal ice Al'udirg to the establishment of the B-tptist Female University, the Messenger hs : Utilise the Baptists shall agree to establish their Femaie University in Wilmington, where the death rate is not higher, we think, than at Ual eigh, and where the winters are mil der and the breezes fresher in sum mer, we hope that the State Capital will be chosen. We will be glad to see Raleigh grow and flourish with unwonted speed in life. Prof. D. H Hill, will deliver his lecture 00 "Analysis of a joke" to morrow night at the Young Men's Christian Association. The enter tainment will be free to members and their lady friends. Owing to the entertainments in the city, the Swedish Quartet will not commence their performance until about 8:45 tonight or perhaps a little later. Rev. J. L. Michaux, of Greenshoro, will soon revive the "Central Pro testant" of which he was the former editor.
