Robert Downing, the favorite American tragedian, is the joint anchor of a romance founded on the story of Damon and Pythias, which is entitled "A True Knight." Mr. Downing became interested in this work from the fact that he is a mem ber of the, order of Knights of Pyth las, whose ritual is derived from the story, as well as from the study of John Banim's play dealing with the same subject. The book follows closely the historical authorities re garding the customs, the institutions and the history of Syracuse, tha coupd' etatof Dionysius the tyrant, and the part taken by Damon in the opposition to the ambitions general. In the development of the interest, however the authors took the liberty of exercising their imagl nations. The result is a very inter' talnlng volume, and one that is very popular with the Kn'ghtsof Pythias the principles of whose order it encul cates. Mr. Downing will play the auAintor at Metropolitan hall Toes day night. Seats on sale at MacRae's drugstore, Prompt Payment. Yesterday, Mr. Wm. M.
