There are a large number of country people in the elty today. The public printing matter h get ting hot, but the Visitor is not "ir it." Saturday March 4th, is the day fixed for adjournment of the legisla tare. The matter of the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad taxation ia still un settled. A state printing establishment at the institution for the Deaf and Dumb and the Blind, is suggested The bill of fare offered by our friend DugM is enough to tempt the palate of any epicure. Read it. The democratic caucus last night reported favorably on the bill to est tablish the county of "Scotland " The annual fish and game fair at New Berne will open next Monday with every assurance of success. It is time the farmers were plough ing in good earnest, but the wet weather, so far, has thrown them bark. It is now thought that the matter of taxes between the state and the Wilmington aud Weldon Railroad is in a fair way of settlement. A snow storm wss raging this morn ing at Philadelphia, New York, Bos ton and as far west as Pittsburg and Cinoinnatti. Glad it is not coming this way. The sceance of Prof. Eddy at Met ropolitan hail last night was myste rious in the extreme and astonished all present. Some of the demonstra tions are beyond alljexplanations. Will a quorum be present at 18 o'clock Saturday, March 4th, when the legislature adjourns? If all the members go to the inaugural who think about it, we very much doubt it. Rev. J. L. Poster will be in the country tomorrow morning so there will be no preaching et 11 a. m at the Christian church, but at 7:3) p. m. the regular service will be held It is a source of much gratification to learn that our two femvle institu tions St. Mary's and Peace Institute are in a most flourishing condition There are no better schools in the south. The bill to incorporate a railroad from Durham to Charlotte, was op posed in the senate yesterday by Sen ator Aycook on the grounds that it would be injurious to the interest of the state in the North Carolina Rail . road. .", North Carolina is falling into line with her sister states of the great American Union. Nearly all of these have grand monuments to perpetuate the memory of their gallant dead. She has just provided a suitable monument on : the battlefield of Guilford court house. She will not refuse a like memorial to the Confed ate dead? ' A personal encounter took place in the' 8enate chamber this morning just prior to the meeting of the body, between Senator Day and Mr. Jose phus Daniels. We did not exactl y get at the gist of the difficulty. Mr. Day struck Mr. Daniels, but no fur ther blows passed, as the parties wore separated The origin of the difflcul ty was the matter of the public printing. Died.
