RALEIGH, MONDAY, MARCH 20. 1893.

CITY IN Bit IFF.
Heavy frost this morofog.
Mayor Badger U still confined at
home with sloknts.
It wW soon be time to Inaagarate
another 8tate fair.
Tbe cotton receipts continue light
and price rale from 8 to 8
Ca tdtdatei for aldermen will soon
be tbioc We hear of several on the
way.
Meetings at the Wett Bad Baptist
Mission still continue with much
Interest.
Col E G. Harrell will soon be as
busy as a man can be making realy
for the Tl-.it of Teachers to the World's
Fair.
One rich man who pats forth his
arm to erect factories and establish
plants in a town, is worth a hundred
wno lives only for himself.
Applicants for places at the peni
tentiary will have to bear their delays
with patience. It wili be some' time
yet before a deal can be had.
Before long yoa o in leave Raleigh
in the morning, spend a short lima in
Richmond, Va., and return tbe same
evening. "The world do move "
Wake Superior Court for tbe trial
of criminal causes commences next
Monday. The docket is not very
large and there are no cases involv
ing capital punishment.
Another new cotton factory and
another wagon factory, and do end
to the smaller schemes in sight ; and
yet provincial towns pat on airs and
say that. Raleigh is not on a boom
A coantry friend whose experience
is such as to warrant the belief that
he kn'ws, says that the fruit was in
no way injured by the frost thia
morning, it not being far enough ad
vanced.
- There will be a called meeting of
Raleigh Council 851 R a. at 8 o'clock
to night, March 20th. for con
f erring degrees Officers are expected
to be present. Members earnestly
requested to attend.
Mr W R Newsom, the Wilmington
street grocer, has always on hand ne
of the most select stocks of groceries
in the city. Let nil in waut of any
thing iu his line give him a call He
will be snre to please them
Superintendent Roberts of the cap
itol and grounds ia on the look out
for his dominions and will hive the
square in its
usual pretty coudiriou .
this spring and summer. O&pt. Rob
erts takts particular prid in keeping
everything around him iu perfect or
der. What a nice arrangement it would
be, when tbe connection to Pollen
Park is made by the Electric railway, ;
if a braaoh line was run around '
through Brooklyn connecting ith
the main line on Blount street. If
the road is patronized as it should be,
probably in the near future such a
belt may be run.
If you want to realize the growth
of Raleigh just undertake to cross
the street at the corner of Martin and
Wilmington streets lomt day when
the cotton receipts are heavy You
cin well imagine yourself iu the low
er part of New York city, especially
when you see a big policeman ready
to pilot you across.
The spring time is coming on and
the busy housewife is cleaning up.
There are many new articles needed
New salts of furniture, new mattress
es infant's carriages, new looking
glasses and, in fact, new outfits in all
the lines for furniture. Now the
question comes up, where can those
be had to the best advantage. We
believe that Messrs Thomas & Max
well can fill the bill to as good, and
perhaps better - advantage than any
other house in the city. We aC vise
all who re in want of anything in
their line to give them a call.
