Richmond yesterday afternoon.
Dr. Biackna'l left today for More

Attention is called to the notice of
administrator's sale by A Byrne ad
ministrator. Mrs. Sidney Gillian, of Richmond,
Va., is in the city, visiting her lster,
Miss Grade Snead at Mr. Leonard
Royster's.
We regret to state that Mis. El'aa
Lambeth, the venerable mother of
oar friend Mr. 0 W Lambeth, is very
ill.
Misses Anna and Ella Ferrell, of
Durham, are in the city, the guests
of Mr?. H H Crocker on East Hargett
street.
Let all who desire to hear a first
class lecture go to Metropolitan Hall
tonight. The subject is 'Yourself

The North Carolina Teachers' As
sembly meets at Morehead City, N
0., June 20 to July 4, 1893. During
that time address all communications
there.
Don't forget the lecture of Rev A 0
Dixon at Metropolitan Hall tonight,
"Youiself pod Other People" is the
subject Mr Dixon ranks high as a
lecturer and something good may be
expacted.
Gov. Carr this nornins respited
Tony Rogers of Richmond county,
who was to have been hung on the
6th Inst, to Tuesday June 27th. He
was convicted and sentenced for mur
dering his wife by poison.
Attention is directed to the adver
tisement of the Lyon Racket Store
which announces new arrivals. This
well known establishment is offering
such inducements to purchasers as
cannot fall to attract. Call and see
them.
Mr. Wiley Hicks has been very ill
for come time at his residence corner
of Lenoir and Bloodworth streets.
He has a family consisting of six
children, and they are in need of the
nscesearies of -life. We hope our
chairitable citizens wlli aid them in
their misfortune.

neral car in the Davis ceremonies is
to be preserved by the North Carolina
Antiquity society. It will give fu
ture generations an insight into how
their ancestors could reverence the
memory of the great chieftain of the
"southland."

She was met at the depot with a tel
egram stating that her father was
accidentlly killed. She resides in

St. Mary" Alumnos.
A meeting of St. Mary's Alumnce
Association will be held at St. Mary's
Chapel, Raleigh, June 8th, (Thurs
day) at 1:30 pm.
It is hoped that the "Scholarship''

A Bad Change.
We hear it intimated that a change
will be made in the schedule of the
Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Rail
road, next week, whereby the con
nection in the evening with the train
from Raloigh will be discontinued. If
this is carried out, it will be a great
drawback involving much incon
veniehce to those desiring to go to
Fayetteville or Wilmington on the
4:30 afternoon traio, besides inter
rupting to a considerable extent the
business between these places. The
schedule as now carried out is one of
great convenience, and we most earn'
estly hope that the officials of the
O. F. & Y. V. R. R. will reconsider th
matter, if decided. It will work con
siderable hardship. We hope the peo
pie of Wilmington and Fayetteville
will make efforts to have the present
arrangement continued ,
