Every indication points to a very large attendance at Morebead dur ing tbe session of the Teachers1 As sembly. Capt. Octavius Coke's youngest child is quite sick. He will accom pany it to Morebead City this week in hope of relief. Mr. 8 8 Aldrlch, of Salisbury, who has spent 51 years of his life as a locomotive engineer, has gone to New York to visit relatives. The directors of the North Caro lina Institution for the Deaf and Dumb and the Blind have re elected Mr. W J Young principal and all the other officers. Tbe Raleigh banks are as safe as it is possible for any institution to be. The most perfect confidence prevails in Raleigh. We have the right men in the right places. Attention is dimcted to the an nouncement of Messrs W H fir R 8 Tucker & Co, who announce their de termination to adhere as close as possible to tbe cash system. Capt. T R Robertson tbe new post master of Charlotte, was in the city yesterday afternoon. He was ac conipanied by his little daughter who will spend some time with her aunt Mrs. Col. A B Andrews. Although we are to have no public celebration here on the 4th of J uly. there will be many private picnics, excursion?, &c. This train will leave Uuion Depot next Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock. The improvements a t the Deaf and Dumb Asylum for the present will, be devoted to the exterior of the build ing. Next year important remodel ing of the wiug now occupied by deaf motes will be made to accom modate the blind. This is done in anticipation of the completion of the asylum at Morganton. Preparations are about completed for the concert and gymnastic exhi bition, to be given at Metropolitan Hall tonipht under the direction of Prof Horace P Smith, of the Rich mond Y MCA. The entertainmeot is for the benefit of the Raleigh Y M C A. A large audience is anticipat ed. See program in another column. Prof Smith has his men well under control and no doubt this entertain, ment will be remembered some time in the future. The pyramid work on parallel bars and Roman ladders, is excellent the effect wonderful. Prof Smith has had control of one of tbe largest gymnasiums in New York city, And our people should not lose this opportunity of seeing the finest ath lete and all around gymnast in the U 8.
