Cije IMlg . uei itn wetter. VOL. XXIX. RALEIGH, THURSDAY, JULY 20. 1893. NO. 74 UTT IN Hit IFF. ""he summer 1 fast waning. All quiet la department circles to day. A trifle cooler bat Btill very de pressing Mr Hal W Ayer. is rusticating at Morehead Mrs M J Bellamy, Uo has been quite sic ;, is improving. The First N itionul BaDk, of Wins ton, will resume in a few days. Several of -ur citizen will leave next week f r the Columbian exposi tion Rev J B Bobbitt, wife and son left this morning for Surry county, N O, on a trip of recreation. All the talk now is the August races. They promise to be very in teresting and exdting. A colored exodus is again talked of for the coming full. It is being agi tated to a considerable extent in Win ston. Eat sparingly and be careful what you eat. This is the only way to get through the heated term without sickness. Mr C B Holladay, son of Mr A Q Holladay, has accepted a position at the Greenbrier White Sulphur Springs, Va. The visiting Odd Fellows under the chaperon "tra of Mr Tonnoffski and others euj -d themselves yesterday afternoou m naking a'delightf ul trip to Pullen P r Dr Branson left on this afternoon's train for Durham to attend the 24th session of the Local Ministers Confer ence Dr Abernethey, the President of the Conference will deliver the opening addrers at b p m. Dr Branson has been the Secretary for 21 years in succession. Auditor Furman says that the pen sion fund for this year will be a little over $100,000. He says there will be a good many new pensioners, the ap plications being more numerous than expected. The amonht to be paid each class is not yet known as there will have to be an entirely new ap portionment. The space in the capitol square fronting the south gate would be an admirable site for the Confederate monument, but then it would ob struct the view of Washington's Btat ue. However, this should be removrd to the rotunda of the building where it properly belongs, especially as the old gentleman has no hat on We briefly alluded yesterday to the proposed road from Rolesville to Wake forest. We saw a gentleman today from that section of the county who confirmed the report of the early building of the road, and said that much good was expected of it. He declares that an ou'let for the farm ers there would be worth thousands of dollars in an individual sense, and that the increased value of lands along the line would be apparent. We much regret our inability to be present at the recent meeting of the Board of Aldermen. We are aware of the fact that these meetings should be reported fully, and we propose hereafter to be present, If possible, at meetings of importanoe. In the meantime we would mildly suggest that it would not be out of place for some of the aldermen to prompt us as to anything of importance. It is alike to their interest and that of the public. Information is desired of William Mabe who left the state farm at Hal fax some time since with the inten tion of going to Greensboro. Since that time nothing has been beard of him He had considerable money with him, and his friends fear he has been foully dealt with. He is 80 yours old, dark complexion, heavy build. His distressed faMier, John M Abe. 'at Elk Crttk, N would be thaukfu' for any news concerning him, " Died. On Tuesday last in House Creek Township, Grover Edwards, child of Mr and Mrs J F Edwards. Mr Hancock, a young man who, up to the time of the commencement of bis sickness, aorae three weeks since, was telegraph operator at the N C Depot, in tbis city, died lat night at his homo in New Berne He was a gentlem to of much popularity. A Good Time. Aho-it three o'clock this afternoon the members of tbe Grand Encamp, ment of Odd Fellows and of tbe t o encampments in this city, left the front of their hall on Fayetteville street for Brookside Park where, at last accounts, a "good time" gener ally was being had. Raleigh is noted for its hospitable treatment of the Rtrangers within our gates. The Daughters of Rebekah were repre sented in tbe festivities. memorial.
