iru on. Xeaber of tkeffcimber ofConaerre Shoild Be Oit la Force Tonlgkt. It has been suggested to at to art; most strenuously upon the memo n of the chamber of eommeroe to ( tend their meeting tonight. It U be yond doabt that there bu beea too maeh delinquency la the matter of attendance of late, and consequently the chamber has tot felly come op to what was expected of it. The meeting tonight is one of too m a h Importance to be o -er'ooked. It is meeting at which proper and foil or ganizatlon for the coming twelve months is to be effected and there is a large amount of business that should be referred to committees at once. We hope tbst the next year may develop some important meas ares for the good of oar city, and in these, the adjunct o' fie chamber with the board of aldermen, is al most an absolute necessity Let every member be promptly on bond. Look After It- We have heard a suggestion which we think a most admirable one ani which will, we believe, relieve to a great extent the travel to this city from the northwestern part of tie county. As it now is most or all of the country wagors arriving from that direction have to traverse the entire length of the village of Uber lin, entering the Hillsboro road at the point where the old Temple store used to stand, or elee come in by the Williamson farm and enter the city at the foot of Halifax street. This could be avoided, if the road turning out near the old Harris farm at the end of the Oberlln road and running to the city through Brooklyn was placed in a proper condition. We would respectfully suggest to our county commissioners to require the superintendent, Mr McMackin, to put this road in good repair. Aside from the convenience other wise rendered, the carts, &c from the country would avoid meeting the street cars, which causes at times fright to horses endangering life and limb. We hope this proposition will be looked after at once. It is much needed. A Pleasant Place for Leisure Hours. We are glad to learn that the at tendance upon the rojms of the Y M OA. have rapidly increased with September, so that now there are nearly 100 visits a day. We know of no more delightful place than the Y MCA. rooms. The reading room is supplied with all the papers, daily and weeklies, magazines, religious and scientific journals &c &o , that could be desLed. In the room of amusements there is em Voyment for all, and in tV e gymnasium both fun and healthful exercise e to be had Every young man in the city, strangers and all should make free use of this pleasant i-lace provided for them. Entertainment. Another deligutfal ejtertainment will be given at the ladies auxiliary of the Young Men's Christian Asso ciation on Faiday night the 15th inst There will be novelties such as have never heretofore been introduced in Raleigh. Among these will be the young ladles "Milk Maids Drill" which will be Introduced in appro priate costume. A grand concert will also be a special feature. Chamber of Commerce. The monthly meeting of the chn ber of commerce will be held tonight at; the mayor's office at 8:80 o'clock harp. It is expected that the new committees will be announced and work mapped out for the coming year. We earnestly hope there w"l be a large attendance. Some com plaint 's made of boisterous conduct by young men at, the Union Depot last night. We are glad to learn that efficient steps are being taken to have such conduct remedied in future. We are informed by a gentleman who is probably in a position to know, that there will possibly be no changes in the force at the revenue office before October 1st. The marriage of two of on' popular young townspeople is announced to take place at Edenton Street M E Chareh tonight. Personal Xtitloi. Mr Geo P Howell, of Ooidsboro, is la the city. A party consist'ng of Major R 8 Tucker, Mrs James Boylan, Mrs Ed H Lee ani Misses Bessie, Sadie and Minnie Tucker left for the world's fair this morning via the Seaboard Air Line and the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. Alabama. This beautiful typical southern play will hold the boards at Metro politan Hall tomorrow night In all its magnificent scenic effects, lis allu sions and its reminiscences it carries us back to the old time chivalry of our beloved southland while there is nothing to revive in the least degree anything like painful memories be tween the sections. The plot is good and most admirably blended in all its details. It will ba a special delight to our people to know that, in the company will be Mr Frank C Bangs, so well known for his masterly per formances. He will, we hope, receive a most cordial reception at the bands of the Raleigh public. Good Pickings. As far as we are able to learn the new Collector of this Internal Reven ue district will have eight appoint ments to make in the office of this city at salaries ranging from $1000 to $800 ; two stamp deputies, at Beids ville and Durham, at $1200 each ; 12 district deputies at $1C09 salary and $500 yearly for expenses.
