Seldom, If ever, ban there been iaeh demonstrations of sorrow m have been shown on the part of all oar people over the death of Dr E Barke Haywood, and It culminated this morning bv the largest and most im pressive funeral evemeen in Raleigh. It was announced that, the services would take place from Christ church at 11 o'clock, but before the arrival of that hoar a law concourse of po pie representing ad c'aeses and shades of society winded their way to th church filling it to the utmost oapac- ' lty. The solemn cortege arrived at j the proper time accompanied by a I large concourse int naa asemoiea at the residence. Among the variom attendants were delegations of Con federate veterans, officers, teachers -and pupils of the institution for the . deaf and dumb and blind representa tives from the A and M college. Peace institnte, St Mary's, insane asylum The Academy of Medicine was fully represented by most of the physicians of he city. The services in the church were of the most impressive charao ter, conducted by the rector, Rev Dr M M Marshal.. The floral decorations were of tbe highest order for beauty and design, and every tribute of res eet of an ap propriate kind was paid to the ' be loved physician " At the conclusion of the service.- at the church the solemn piocession wended its way to the cemetery. The members of the Raleigh Academy of Medicine acted as hono'rary pall bearer. The following colored friends of ' the lamented dead bore the ca ket: Geo Bryant, Dave Thompson, MorrU Watts, Frrtuk Debnam. AH felt thaf our community had sustained a heavy loss while each individual mourned as if a dear friend "had crossed the river." We should not omit to mention that the store, city an county officials paid due homage by their presence and ot herwise to the lamented dead. For ourselves, we can only render the poor homage of earnest sympa thy for the afflicted family in the loss of one who, in life was one of our most devoted friends, and whose memory we will cherish as a bright oasis in the troubles and trials of life.
