C, FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 1913. 1 ooort-oo OO-OOO I THE GOVERNOR'S MANSION. The Governor's Mansion in Ral eigh is built of brick and covered with slate and metal. It is occu pied by the Governor as a dwell ing only. The State provides a night watchman for the property. It is located in the center of an en tire city block 420 feet square. The square is bounded by four wide streets. There is a fire hy drant connected with the city water supply at each of the four corners of the square. Everything else in the city of Raleigh may burn with out setting fire to this property. FIRE INSURANCE RATES IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK On an ordinary detached brick, slate and metal roof dwelling, under fire protection, in New York State, per $1,000 - - - $1.00 On property in a flat at No. 220 East 36th Street, in the congest ed East Side District of New York City, per $1,000 - - - $2.00 IN THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA On the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh, shown and described above, per $1,000 $3.00 On a detached brick, slate and metal roof dwelling on North Blount Street, in Raleigh, in easy reach of a fire hydrant, per $1,000 $4.00 DISCRIMINATION If the fire insurance companies are guilty of this discrimination against the State of North Carolina, which pays them $10,000 a year in premiums for insuring State property, with its Insurance Commis sioner to place the insurance, what kind of treatment can the plain or dinary citizen expect from them and what is he getting ? The State of North Carolina and the citizens of the State may sub mit to this injustice at the hands of the Trust, which has acquired and exercises the arbitrary power of fixing and increasing these rates, as long as they wish, but we conceive it to be the duty of the Press of the State to inform them of the facts as far as possible.
