A '' After the Call Commission House Begs Picking Vp Cotton, and This Support Gave the Uxt a Better - Tone and Rallied the Prices About Eight Point. (By Leased Wire to The Times.) New n York, June t-At the open- Ins of the stock market today majority of shares showed losses from 1-4 to 1-1 rcr cent. An exception to tne general rule was found in the Northern Pacific, which advanced Canadian Pacific lost 1 3-4 In all. At the end of ten minutes trading, the market as a -whole, showed slight Improvement but the rally was Irregular and feeble. London sent over lower range ot prices and our market at the opening today showed fractional receslsons vlr. tually through the list The opening ;v figures, however, were in most lnstan- i : cps the highest of the day and aubae ' quently the ' market developed acute - r weakness, recording declines ranging ' , from 162 pet cent In the active shares. Many of those who purchased stocks ; In anticipation of a rise as an outcome of the president's address, were inclin ed again to dispose of them. Much comment was made on the utter lack of absorbing power as no one seemed ! to want to buy stocks except the pro fessionals now and then for the retlre ' ment of short contracts. A feeble, rally In the market oc . curred after the publication of the bank statement, but It Is not signifi cant and the closing was heavy and , well under yesterday's final prices. . Governments unchanged. Other ; bonds were quiet. The morning's trade on the stock ex change was, for the most part, unim portant and had little real significance beyond the conflicting manoevres of the : professional speculators. At the open Ing and for the first hour the market was weak, influenced more than any thin else by the lower range for Am ' erlcan stocks in London. Toward the end of the session, owlns, , apparently to the desire of operators , ;. short of stocks to close In their obllga ttons over Sunday, prices rallied partlal "' ly. But net losses as a rule resulted on the day and the final tendency was quite uncertain. .. The feature of the weekly bank sum ' mary was the increase of over $13, : 600,000. In loans. This was due chiefly i to pome large payments on syndicate transactions which had to be made at the first of the month. Cash holdings Increased nearly 1540, 006 a rather better showing than ex pectedbut on account of the heavy .loan expansion, the suurplus reserve was reduced nearly $3,000,000. ..
