Vet peo- pie are sometimes frightened at Its use. Our Saviour says "Be ye there fore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect," and the apostlo says, "let tis go on ttiito perfection." The perfection which we Beek to attain is not that of the angels who have never sinned, nor of Adam in his Btate of Innocence, We speak of a perfect flower, of a perfect fruit, of a perfect orator, of a perfect lady and of a perfect gen tleman. Why not of a perfect Chris tian? The Bible says that Job was perfect and upright, fearing God and eschewing- evil. Christ said that Nathaniel was an Israelite Indeed in whom was no guile. The perfection required is that of kind and not de gree. When Christ said, "Be perfect as your Father," he did not mean perfect in knowledge, for God is om niscient; nor in power, for God is almighty. God's essential nature is love. If we are to be like God our,jay o November, 1307. nenris must be nnea witn love; wei must love God with all the heart,! soul, mind and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves. The aposile expected the churcii to be a working church, every mem ber of it active in every good work. Only as God works' in us that which is well-pleasing in his sight can we be perfect in every good work. The apostle here recognizes the human and the divine side of salvation. We are to work out our salvation, while God works in us to will and to do of his good pleasure. It is the God of peace that is to do this. How frequent th expreS- sion. "The God of oeace be with j vou," "The God of peace sanctify you wholly." Christ is eminently the God. of .peace.- Ages before his birth he was called the Prince of Peace. .
