When the January term of Wake superior court convenes Monday. January 6th, there will be at lease 150 cases on the docket. Ot t .live cases 92 are already made up, and bv the time the various magistrates and the police justice report, the number will be lullv lal. Cour; will convene with ''Judge J. Crawford Biggs, of Durham, presid ing. Judge Bisks, by the way, is the youngest .'.judge on the bench. Besides this he has been serving only one vear and out ol attv-two weeks has worked tortv-six. 1 here are a number of cases of un usual, interest to be tried, the most important on,e being the state against W. W. Rippev. C M. Oaklev. Victor Parvin and B. P. Ketchum. who are charged with the fatal wreck at Au burn earlv in August. XIr. Rippev, it will ho remembered, was the engineer in charge of tao tram that caused the wreck, and Mr. Oaklev. tne conductor. Messrs. Parvin and Ketchum were the dis patchers at Durham, who are hold for gross negligence. A coroner s jury held these men guilty of gross negligence in causing tne death ot three other trainmen. Their case is set for January ltltn. Mr. W. Y. Rippev. of Bitriinton, the engineer, was In the city this af ternoon conferring with his attor neys. He and the other men havo employed Messrs. Argo & Jshaffer. Mr. Walter Clark. Jr.. and ex-Governor Caarles B. Avcock. A large number ot witnesses are being sub poenaed and the attorneys will make a hard fight tor tneir clients. Mr. Rippev was looking better to day than at any time since the catas trophe. He is confident of acquittal and so are his attorneys. The case of Everett bpence. the young white man who is charged wit. i killing a negro in East Raleigh, will also come up. ..hpence s case : has been on the docket since 190b and he has been in jail most of the time. He was released on a $500 bond last summer.
