At a meeting of the directors of the Eastern Carolina League, held at Goids boro last evening, Rocky Mount declin ed to be governed- by the rules of the national association and New Bern was taken in by a vote of rive to one. Ths meeting was enthusiastic and every club put up the required guarantee of $300. The pay of the umpire was in creased from $5.50 to $0.50 a game, Payetteville was ready to come in. but it whs known that Rocky Mount -would kick out and that city did hot have a representative present. The next meeting will be held in Raleigh, .April (!. The Rakigh club has leased the A. S; M. College baseball park for the sea son and the games in this city will b.? played there. Cox and Gattls, who have returned from Goldsboro, are enthus iastic over the prospects of good base ball for the season. The coming of Governor Glenn to .Oxford on March 26th, for the pur pose of fostering the cause of prohi bition In this county, will be marked with no little enthusiasm, as both sides are eager to hear his discussion on the subject. BALL SCHEDULE Raleigh Boys Have Fourteen Gaines Arranged THE FIRST GAME MONDAY To Be Unusually Good Season For Baseball, as Boys Are Busily at Work Outdoor Exercise For All Students Some of the Candidates For the' Team The Schedule. The greatest: enthusiasm is being manifested in athletics by the stu dents of Centennial and High Schools. The out-door gymnasium that has been installed is being en joyed to the utmost by the girls and boys. Their activity is not confined to school hours, as from early morn 'till dewy eve can they be seen in large crowds on the campus swing ing, playing basket-ball, throwing the hammer, performing on bars, etc. As might be expected at this sea son of the year baseball is the most popular sport. A large number of boys arc trying for positions on tho High School team, which promises to be the best team ever put out by that institution. As catchers both Willis Holding and Henry Faucctt are good, Faucet t being last 'season's catcher. The corps of pitchers is composed of Talmadge Stafford, the captain of the team, and crack pitcher of last year; Hubert Baldwin, Joo Heilig, and Leland Harris. Stafford is perhaps the best High School pitcher in North Carolina. Jack Harris and Joo Heilig, both good players, are candidates for the posi tion of first baseman. Hartwlck Mills will play second. Baldwin and Stafford will alternate at short. Le land Harris, Sidney Holman, and Carl Betts are all trying third base. As out-fielders, Charles Newcomb, Lem Yerby, Herman Briggs, Victor Spruill, Julian Timberlake, Need ham Broughton, Arthur Taylor, Mark Chamberlain, and Hubert Vy att are all practising. . A good long schedule has been ar ranged, and the boys hope to win the championship. Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Durham, and Greensboro all belong to the North Carolina Ath letic League, the other teams men tioned below do not.
