"The White Hat," the opening bill of the Wayne Comedy Company, was one of the snappiest shows that the theatre going public of Raleigh have seen this season. The songs were new and catchy and were superbly rendered by the splendid cast. There was not a dull moment during the entire performance. Encore upon encore greeted every song, several of them coming back three times. The swinging stunt was new and received hearty applause. The swings were beautifully illumi nated with colored lights, the girls swinging far out over the audience and singing a late hit. This performance was greeted by a far too small audience. It is a good ! show and doubtless will play to - a packed house tonight. mm REST OF THE WEEK The Vayne Musical Comedy Company PRESENTS Friday Evening, Oct. 2, "THE CHORUS GIRL with a Chorus of pretty girls, of wit and laughter. The Richmond Times-Dispatch of September 29th has the following to say of the "Brown of Harvard" at traction, which comes to the Acad emy of Music Monday night: "Bro,wn of Harvard" Is a love tsory that draws laughter and thrills from young men and younger women, but smiles for the memories of the long ago from those of more ancient years. The college lad grows chesty with with the pride of comradeship; the debutante gleefully pictures herself the belle of the campus, while fa thers, mothers and bald-headed, red faced bachelors grow strangely senti mental over the cherished recollec tions of the days when college colors, a college song, a college victory, and better still a college love affair made life worth while. : This was the story that was told on the Academy stage last night, witii just enough vllllany added here and there to push the hero well Into the limelight and keep him there until at the end of the last act "the girl" falls into his anxious arms, while a "college widow" hat falls like a halo over his martyred head. The matinee maiden who cannot enthuse over Mr. Tom Brown of any old college had best betake herself speedily to a nunnery, far from the SPECIAL MATINEE AND NIGHT, MONDAY, OCTOBER 5.
