Terrible Croup
One Who Knows Recommends
Remedy to Anxious Mothers.
My little boy, who is four years
old, has suffered a lot with croup.
On several occasions we thought he
was gone. ,
After trying all the old time rem
edies and most of the new, I came
home one night at. midnight, and my
wife said, "The boy has the croup
again--suppose you get a bottle of
Hymoei." "More junk," I said, "but
we will circulate our money so they
all will get some."
I hastened to an all-night drug
store, brought it home. In five min
utes he was breathing easier. In 15
minutes he was sound asleep. It
broke the croup so quickly it scared
me.
Anyone wishing to cure the croup
of a child I hope will give Hyomel a
trial. -
Wishing you the best of success,
Vhich you deserve, I remain, Jos. E.
Clark, 204 6th St., S. E., Washing
ton. D. C, Oct. 7, 1909. .
Hyomei is a remarkable- effective
remedy In case of croup and It should

croupy child. Full instructions how
to cure croup comes with each outfit.
Complete Hyomei outfit, including
inhaler, costs $1 at druggists every

SCOTLAND NECK NEWS.
Governor Kitchin's Halifax Ap-ointe's-
SuMrir Court in Ses
sion Rev. R. A. McFarland Closes
His Pastorate.
(Special to The Times.)
Scotland Neck, N. C, Aug. 24
Governor Kitchin has appointed the
following gentlemen from Halifax
county as delegates to the Deeper
Waterways Association at Providence,
R. I., August 31 to September 3:
Congressman Claude Kitchin and
Mr. J. C. Hardy, of Scotland Neck,
and J. W. Sledge, of Weldon.
At Halifax court yesterday J. W.
Gardner submitted to charges of
carrying ". concealed weapons (two
charges) , resisting an officer and
assault. He was fined $23 and costs,
amounting to nearly $100. He was
also charged with selling whiskey,
but the principal witness, .-..William
Tayor, was not present and the case
was continued. .Williams was also
under a bond upon the same charge
and a few days ago, having visions
of the road force so badly frightened
him that he hiked away to other
parts unknown to the authorities or
his bondsmen, who were his colored
brethren, They were seen by this
correspondent pleading with a law
yer in an effort to get relieved from
paying the bond forfeited by the said
William. It may be that they will
be excused, but it is said that Judge
Furguson has so little sympathy for
law-breakers, and especially blind
tigers, that it is possible they will
have to cough up or accept the con
sequences. Hamener, the lawyer, promised to
do what he could to gain the judge's
sympathy.
It is very much regretted that Rev.
C. F. Greaner, of New Bern, could
not be here today to deliver the ad
dress before the county Baraca as
sociation because of sickness. Dr.
Poteat, president of Wake Forest
College, is here and will deliver the
address tonight. .
Rev. R. A. McFarland will close
his pastorate in Scotland Neck with
next Sunday's services, and will move
Jo his new , charge at Suffolk next
week. So far no one has been se
cured to take his place as pastor of
the Baptist church, but the board
of deacons has several good men
spotted, and hope to be able to make
some definite announcement soon. It
is probable that Rev. J. E. Hutson,
of Richmond, will supply the con
gregation until a suitable man can
be secured. Mr. Hutson has supplied
for this church before, and has a
number of warm friends in this com
munity, who will hear him gladly.
It is very much regretted that Mr.
McFarland deems it his duty, to give
up his work here and go to Suffolk,
and he says himself that he never
regretted giving up a charge as
much as he does tills one.. His flock
here wiU bid him Godspeed in his
new field. , 1 ;

THE EVENING
discourse on the "Second Coming ot
Christ." He emphasized the point
that while the Bible declares tnat
no one can know the day and the
hour in which Christ will come, yet
we are to know "when it is near by
the signs He has given as tokens
of the nearness of the end of time.
He took the position that almost
all of those signs had been fulfilled,
lience we know that we are in the
last days. He said one special evi
dence of th nearness of the end is
the great missionary movement of
the present time. He showed that
everything indicates that the gospel
of the kingdom will soon have gone
toall nations, and then, according
to the Bible, Jesus will come.
The citizens asked for a sermon
showing why Seventh-day Adventists
observe tiie Seventh-day (Saturday)
instead of Sunday (the first day of
the week), which most other Chris
tians keep.
Elder Hennig spoke on the Sabbath
question, saying that the fourth
commandment of the decalogue en
joins upon us the, observance of the
Seventh day, which is acknowledged
by all the world, to be Saturday and
that there is no commandment in the
Bible for the observance of any other
day. He said:-'' "Christ said that
He did not come to do away with
tiie law, but to fulfill it"

The children are the ones to learn the art of sav
ing. Begin early. Begin right. .-That means: sub
scribing for The Evening Times and getting a sav
ings bank with an account opened up, for the child.
Here is the plan: Every child under fifteen years
that will bring $5.00 to The Evening Times for one
years' subscription, either new or in advance, will be
presented with an elegant Savings Bank containing
$1.00. These banks are now on display at the Mer
chants National Bank and the deposit will be with
that bank. Thus a regular savings account will be
. opened with. this bank in the name of the child,
.probably laying the foundation for its fortune.
EACH SUCCEEDING SUBSCRIPTION SECUR
ED WILL ADD $1.00.
To the child's account, thus stimulating the children
not only to work but to save.
Parents should encourage their children to take
up this wonderful proposition. The children, both
boys and girls, must bring these subscriptions direct
to The Times office, when proper credit will be given ,
and the deposit made for the child.
