It was 'a long wait, but the cneerful -wowd was entertained by the glitter and inugniuVanee ot t.ie arriving and departing diplomats and army and navy officers. The reception at the white house todav excelled in brilliance all official lunctions ot tue year. ..The gorgeous uniforms of the diplomatic corps and of the armv, the navy, and the ma rine corps, presented a picture of blended color. The scene inside the white house was a beautiful one.
