The burden of his argument was to the effect that the republicans should re ject the treaty, because tho farmers of the country have stood bv the party. Ho said that reciprocity was not in accordance with the promise made in the republican platform that duties should be based on tho difference of the cost of production here and in Europe, with a reasonable profit to the producer.
