The journals to which we al lude are for the most part supported by the business of immense monopolies; the legislators are themselves monopolists, and tin; third class is composed of what are called by politico-economic writers "middlemen." These three classes are the natural enemies of the laboring man; they will never give him a right which they can withhold, or redress a wrong which it is possible to resist. They are bound together bv the strongest of all . chains that of self-interest. They love their boards of trade and their exchanges; one market controls and affects the other; I the telegraph- is their mighty servant; ADVERTISEMENTS. PROCLAMATION, BY HIS EXCELLENCY, THE GOVERNOR OF NORTH CAROLINA. Executive .Department, Raleigh, N. C, April 20, 1871. Whereas, Information has been received at. this Department that the following named persons eianu cnargea Dy indictment in the County of Buncombe with murder; and, Whereas, They have escaped, orjso concealed themselves that the ordinary process of law cannot be served upon them: . Now, therefore, L TOD R. CALDWELL, Governor of North Carolina, by virture of au thority in me vested by law, do issue this, my proclamation, oflering the following rewards for the arrest of the men named and their de livery to the Sheriff of Buncombe county, viz: For Thomas Brown, Two Hundred Dollars. " George Morehead, Two Hundred Dollars. ' 1 Leander S. Hamley, Two Hundred Dollars. " Andrew Wise, Two Hundred Dollars. And I do enjoin all officers of the law and all good citizens to aid in bringing these crim inals to justice. Done at our City of Raleigh, this .20th day of April, 1871, and in the year of American Independence the ninety . fifth. TOD R. CALDWELL, Governor. By the Governor: J. B. Neathert, Private Secretary. age, DESCRIPTION. Thomas Brown is about 21 years of copper color, six feet high, weighs 175 pounds. He is indicted for the murder of Silas Fatton, (col.)and broke jail on the 21st of February last. George Morehead is about 21 years of age, will weigh 140 or 150 pounds, 5 feet' 7 or 8 inches high, black. Also indicted for the mur der of Silas Patton, (col.) Leander S. Hamley is about six feet high, 35 years of age, weighs 160 pounds, light hair and blue eyes ; quick spoken. Indicted for the murder of Henry Drummond, (col.) about the 18th of January last. Andrew Wise is about 25 years of age, and is indicted for the murder of J. C. Rodgers last October. He escaped from an officer and fled from the State. . BREWSTER. thev form one vast organization, a con- spiraey to make as much money as pos sible out of those who work for them. 'I ho practical result of their theories is to give the merchant a palace, and to give the mechanic something meaner than a hovel. The mechanic very naturally ob jects, and combines to resist the force which drives him to the wall. For this he is branded as a revolutionist and a dan gerous person, and preachers and editors warn the community against him. Now' let us look at the other side of the question, and see what the very gentlemen who decry labor organizations are them selves doing. A meeting of bar-iron man ufacturers of the Atlantic States has been called to meet at the Astor House on next Tuesday. The Secretary states the object of this meeting to be the consideration of ''the necessity: for some erqanizalion or '"oVv of action which will harmonize the v vii .interests involved and insure to the Auu iieairproducer his just rights." And at a mpptinf of tbfisft same iron men, a few weeks aero, a resolution was passed that a committee be appointed to classify and 'report a schedule of extra prices for bi nd. hoot, oval, half round and scroll mn, and to submit the same to the meet i;. '. So much for the East. Look out West. The telegraph tells us that a move mad is on foot in St. ' Louis among promi nent merchants, bankers and capitalists to organize an association in the interest of cotton and sugar producers with the design of controlling a portion of that trade.'' Now here we have the "govern ing classes," as they are called, setting the very example doing the very thing which theyso much condemn in the working man. What is tho difference, in a moral point of view, between the act of the iron men banding themselves together, con- Hmintr to in force the uavment of a cer tain sum by the consumer, and the act of the smelters aud the foundry men organiz ing and associating to say that the employ ers .shall iriv tbein certain wages ? There . " i not a particle of difference. It is the old ami honored law of self -protection in 1'oth cases older than any Government and stronger than any statute. The fact is that capital teaches labor the very lesson which it is learning with xueh rapidity to-day, and which it will yet use with fatal effect. The commune fore-shadows aj greater revolution than the world has yet seen or felt, a revolu tion that may shake the Republic as sure lv as it will shako tho monarchy. Eng - land and Prussia and Belgium and Italy and f rniicp tin i 1 Treland and the United States have within them to-day organized labor armica ffr-viter than Marlboro agh fought, -than Wtdlincrton led or Napoleon couriered, armies bound together by one idea, animated by a single purpose It is educated and has educated direction, 'i i'lan and an object which requires time 'done to develop. Its aim is to destroy the feudalism of oppaessive laws and statutes which bind as milling fetters as ver the feudalism of three hundred years ag' did. Chinese cheap labor will no avert the issue in the United States any lame than cannon and dragoons will do 11 in Hyde Park, and the sooner the gen tlcnieu who are Presidents and Senators and Representatives and Princes and lords andlordlings understand it the better.
