V7 Of the 63 counties," eight jor ten were'Jrep , resented by non-residents, whose ; names ap pear as representatives from other counties. And in one instance, a county is represented by a gentleman recently from Philadelphia We are not informed whether he has ever been within one hundred and fifty miles of his constituency. ' ' ' It is singular that any county should be unrepresented, in view of the fact that' the i-t l r ''2Z2J' "i jonsuxui:onai vyunvenLion was in session ,m which there are but twelve or thirteen ''Con servatives" so-called ; and so f as we know them by name, all the counties represented by them in that body, were also represented in the Tucker Hall affair. So that spine fourteen of the Republican counties were, not represented at all, while as many more were represented by generous minded proxies. These facts are sufficient to show that the Tucker Hall Convention was in no proper sense, a representation ofw the Republican sentiment of North Carolina. It was com posed in large degree by volunteers from Wake, and a half a dozen other counties having the greatest facilities for getting to -Raleigh. ; 1 I ' .' The 291 delegates whose names are given in the Standard strikes us as another modest statement of the number present. ! Knowing as we do the capacity bf Tucker's Hall, an remembering its crowded condition we oan not doubt that a considerable number "of well-wishers to the cause of Mr. I Hohdeni who happened to be in town, were ei mitted to take part in- the proceedings1 In the light of these facts, the ' imposing, "Republican State Convention'? of Wednes day last dwindles down to the proportions of a local mass meeting, gotten up in the in- , jterest of Mr. Holden. If the Constitutional Convention had not1 been in session, , not a third of the counties would have been ie presented, while with the aid of that body and its eight dollars per diem they managed to get up delegations, from only 75 of the 89 counties; a dozen or more of them being proxies. The whole affair, therefore, is lifcj tie better than an imposition. V n '"a". t Mr. Holden was nominated by acclama tion; the 42 delegates from. Wake, counting equal to as many counties in other parts of the state. This fact iriay explain another fact, viz : that Wake county; received so many of the best places ANOMALOUS ISSUE. ff wTTeTiafe wplVal. arieriorgtnized in J ' IjTortl C irolini, reacl of ?hjt aifns at the monopoly and perr "Ration jbf prnreJby, uiw uj&uuuwiii jiuuiil oi uio at of 4 the? otter, .The hlmian's party 'aims' at the exfclusfon'of all black men from the right of suffrage: whilethe - black - man's-party- aims - at he exclusion of a majoritr. Judge JParsons used to tell with L great zest of an incident in his travels which wodldbave furnished food for a whole com pany ot village gossips. '-'J' , t - His . wife,- who i seemed 'much agiuted, :w.aked himone night at a tillage inn, rand told him there was a woman sitting at the foot of the bed ; knitting. The Judge saw the figure as distinctly as his wife, buthav- ipg no. thought of a sopernatural 'origin of yisionr.pegan to speculate on its real cause. After looking , sharply . for some minutes while the woman knitted on with unruffled composure, he was confident that .he Could see the wall through her, and she could not therefore be substantial flesh and blood. This 'discovery, which might have affrighted t weaker men, only aroused his curiosity. He at once rose Irom the bed, and walking to the foot, saw that no " one was there the form'had vanished.
