His plan is to have an axle-tree for each wheel, a wheel be ing firmly fastened to one end of each axle tree. There! is a crank on each axle-tree, near to the wheel on the inside, formed by a double bend in the axle-tree. Con ceive two of these axle-trees placed in a frame, one a few inches in advance of the other, with the wheels on each side of the frame, and the inner end of each axle-tree extending Wfarther than the crank on the other axle-tree. This forms the fore part of the wagon. The hinder wheels are mounted in a similar manner, in a frame to themselves. These two frames are con nected together as in ordinary wagons, and on these fracnei the boilers are supported, which may be mounted on floating pistons, each crank having a separate cylinder of its own, entirely independent of each other, with valves, &c. complete. The power. is thus divided into four parts, and each pan applied to its respective wheel. By this plan, in turning the curves of a road, the wheels which describe the greater" curve can re vol ve more rapidly than the others, and yet continue to be urged by the steam with as as force as much before. Mr. W. has obtained j Patent in Europe, for his improved Steam Engine. We will -in our next Register, give an Extract from the Specification of his Improvement. Mr. Reynolds.This scientific and elo quent advocate for prosecuting a voyage of Uiscevery in the Polar Seas, called up on us, on Friday la9t,on his way to the more Southern Cities, and will return hereabout the first' of June, when he proposes to favor the citizens of Raleigh with one or more Lectures in relation to his proposed voyage. No period of time has been more maiked by a spirit of enterprize than the half century which comprizes our ex istence as a nation : and as: the result' of New Theories may be advantageous to the world, even though it ruins the individual who is adventurous and patriotic enough to pursue them, we for our part say Ca Ira to those gifted men who are willing to un dertake tlieiBv The spirit of enquiry and phiIanihropy:is abroad upon the earth, and it will, we trust, on untired wings, proceed in those, discoveries which may produce connecting links to unite the inhabitants of; our vast, but as yet, partially explored globe. Change of Mihistn in England. The following important intelligence is publish ed -in a postscript in the New-Yrk Ame rican of Monday afternoon. It is from the Paris Etoile of the 13th of April, with wluch the editors of the Atmric an have been furnished by a commercial friend. Paris, April 14. We have just received, by express, the English papers of the 12th; which announce the following change of Ministry. Resignation of seven Ministers. Mr. Canning is appointed Premier; in corjse quence thereof, the following seven mem bers of the Cabinet have resigned i Thf Lord Chancellor $ldon, the Duke of Wel lington, Lord SidinouU), Lord Bthurst, Lord Westmoreland, Lord Bexlev and Mr. Peel; " Lord Lowther, son ot Lord Lonsdale, al so resigned as one of the Lords 6f the Treasury.' House of Commons, 5 o'clock, 12th April- -Mr. Wynn, President of the India Board, moved that la writ of election issue to the borough of New- fcport, to elect a member in the room of the Hon. Georg"e Canning', who had accepted, the place of the first Lord ot the Treasury. Great cheering .from all parts of the House.. Mr. Wynn then moved !m adjournmeut to the 1st May, in order to afford time to Mr. -Canning-to frame his new cabinet. Mr. Tierney objected, saying that time enough had. been taken to form a new Cabinet, and it was ml stood that seven of the old mera bers.had run away, and nobody knew when they would return, it was not worth while to wait. We shall probablv derive from this circuitous trade nearly all tlfe advantages which could be obtain--! ed from the d:rect intercourse. Tree Hill Races. These races commen-1 ced ou Tuesday, and will'-terminate to-day. They were unusually well attended : but the sport has not been equal to the expec tation, in consequence of two or three of the bst horses not being entered. On the first day, the Sweepstakes for colts and fillies was runentrance glOO. Three horses only startedMr. Johnson's b. c. by Contention, which won theSweep siakes last week at Petersburg ; Mr. Gar rison's g. f. by Virginian, and a b. f. start ed by Mr. Botts, one mile heats. The first won both heats with very little difficulty. Neither of the other horses was distanced. On Wednesday the Proprietor's Purse of g.300, was run for by Mr, James J. The purse was increased to g3000, by the gentlemen putting in 500 each. Ariel won both heats with apparent ease. Suicide. A young mian named James Blivins, who arrived in this town from N. York, about four months since, died yes terday. morning, in consequence of having taken two ounces of laudanum, during the night preceding. Two letters addressed to his landlord, shew that the dreadful crime was committed after long delibera ration, and that pecuniary embarrassment led him to if. ' Fayette, Observer. . Fire. The d welling-house,smbke-house and corn-crib, beloiffine to Mr. James Freeman, oi this county were entirely consumed by fire on Tuesday last. Not an article was saved. The destruction was so complete, that even his thickens & pigs were burnt up. The chickens, were confined under the crib, and the pigs so secured, that, every member of the family being absent at the time, no means of es cape were left them. When the. neigh bors, attractV-d by the smoke, arrived on he sp-'t, the fire had d ne its work on the buifding-; and they employed themselves in securiour the fences a;ni the corn in an adjoining field a part of which, however was destroyed. Cutawua Journal. On the morning of the 4th iust. about 3 -'clock, this (Jit) was roused by the alarm of fire, whn h had been cominun'rcated, it is supposed, by the hand of an incen diary, to a small uninhabited house on the lot of Wm. J. Hobby, Esq- It soon con.- Miuuicated to his adjoining dwelling house which was laid in ashes. A considerable part of the furniture and property in the house was saved, and but little damage sustained by the endangered buildings on other lots in the neighborhood. We un derstand, the insurance on the property had not been renewed The feelings which such a misfortune are well calculated to produce in the loser were, no doubt, allay- eu in tneir poignancy, uy tne universal sympathy of his fellow-citizens, and the unequivocal testimony which they have given to his worth. Augusta Chron. At the April term of the Mobile Circuit Court, His. Honour Judge Lipscombe pre siding, eight negio slaves charged with the murder of Mr. M'Uee,, their overseer,- m December last, at the Plantation oi Major Montgomery, had their trial on Wednes day week, The jury found three not&uil- ty, and five guilty- four out of the five were however, recommended by the jury to Executive mercy. Pol i.g, althttugh se verely wounded, is said to be in a fair way of recovery. Mr. Reed's loss is estimated at 600 dollars. Fire. Hyco Academy was consumed on Wednesday morning, 2d inst. It is sup psed a spark having gone up the chimney lighted on Jhe roof, which at the time was very dry. The wooden work was all con sumed. This is the ihird time that Hyco Academy has been consumed by fire Milton Gazette. A mechanic of Exmouth, (Eng.) hascon 9truc'ed a model of King Solomon's tem ple, in shell Work and minerals, contain ing 9S5 windows, 11 towers, 385 "pinna cle, 188 pillars, formed of 150,000 En glish shells. The model is four feet ten inches in length, and three feet -seven in ches in breadth j the centre tower four feet six in height. A good example.
