Distress in Engltivi...Tt last accounts from England speak in the strongest terms of the miseries experienced by the poor andvorkin- classesofpeiiple; arising from the stagnation of Trade. The King, in his late Speech to Parliament passes these distresses over as smoothly as possible 5 but several of the Members of Parliament speak of them in terms the most alarming. ri .1 ' , 0 mey say, there must be a reduction in the expenses of the Government, and the people must be relieved from their pre sent enormous tasvs. It seems, that much-of the present essu re has been oc casioned by Peele's bill, which prohibited the issuing of Bank notes under Jive pounds, ami the consequent appreciation of money. Debts contracted when money was redundant, and prices? high, having now to be paid, when the nominal amount of money is, in fact, fifty per cent, more than when the debts were contracted. jan orannope, in speaking on the sub- J 77.f ft. 1 . ' . . ject of these distresses, said, he wouid,; some days hence, bring the whole state of the country undep consideration in a committee of the whole, where it alone culd be fully r,d adequately debated. He would' then show, that the causes of the present distress, are not temporary, nor irremovable by Parliamentary inter ference but on the contrary, that they are likely to be permanent, if not speedi ly revised, and had altogether sprung from Legislative measures. The great Irish oratoTO'CoiMobserved, the Speech from the Throne, spoke of the prevalent distress as partial, whilst three honorable members, in noticiug it, one called it general, another extraordinary, & the third that it was overwhelming. Bat, he said, the Chancellor of the Kxchequefhad discovered there was no' distress in Ire land. I have, continued Mr. OrC. re cently coflie from that country, and I know that a fu nd raised by the Lord Lieu tenant of 3,500 has been exhausted, anil that seven thousand persons are subsisting on three half pence a day !" Nothing! continued he, but a diminution of taxa tion and a reduction of public expenditures can afford relief to the'people, and these reduciionsyjnust not be by candle endsM cheese parings, but by millions The cause of this distress,, contitiued Mr- O'C. 44 is to be found in the misgovern- ment ot the people. A thorough reform of the law is necessary. Talk not of mo difying the game laws, for instance, buta- bolish that cruel code altogether, which now fills our prisons. There should be an tavestigation of the state of the repre sentation with a vievv to render it satis factory to the people, who, if properly re presented, could not complain with jus tice, of the measures adopted by Parlia ment If the people, instead Of being pro perly represented, are left unrepresented -if there is a traffic in boroughs to fill up the rapks of the ministerial legions, ; it could not be expected that the people should be satisfied He looked forward to the existing distress with satisfaction in one point of view it would cause the people to' raise their voice aloud, and de mand a radicaland complete reforml" ..1- i " -j - - ' ' V . 4jt appears that at least3,804S254)Ush et a of Salt are. manu facta red in the United States per annum j and if the returns.were jverage price at the works is about 4a cents pef bushel :at which xate 4,000,000'bush- els wouI(fc prod mount imported from abroad in l82S, was! complete, it vou Id rqHbly increase the anion n t to more, th an 4Q09b60r Tlie V imported from ab'rdadi f.V - 1 V -v ' 1 tV . thehefrtthm0tipe;fi Ki hon or scaudalpuslesMnptiraSicrooi TV diiry who to ydur dwefliHftl J ;' j who;byht9 h Mlrt,tj . lessfrothereJ; nK; touchnu1d it lessee tfe luf pltudeSati ; V in-thc f y,:- hm to .sahat he ,pr6ctlra ft from anb; '4 tte&'VWt? that' VevV trai: WcrclV - U'.fX USinwfif r crnV P 'j, -V We copy the followinV ffom rt,w .iVJ:: YfnHapdtiquirer:; . t ' J, ams. - By a vote of9Mo84, Mr.XoyiH wade. dared entitled to the seat.
